How to play Elden Ring multiplayer coop with friends

Understanding how to play Elden Ring multiplayer with friends isn’t the easiest thing to explain. But if you’re wondering how or when you can play Elden Ring coop, or the hoops you need to jump through, we can help. It’s worth it for your friends to have the advantage of helping the toughest opponents and fighting bosses together. Here we will show you how to play Elden Ring multiplayer as well as the limitations and advantages of coop.

How to play Elden Ring multiplayer with friends

To play Elden Ring in multiplayer with friends, players have to jump a few hoops first, as the set has its own setup limitations. One of the Elden Ring online multiplayer players has a player acting as the “Host of Fingers” and everyone else then joins their world as a fictional player, effectively helping the host in everything they do.

  1. To play with your friends, you will both need internet connections on your consoles/computers (and whatever subscription service you need for online gaming).
  2. After doing that, you both need to open the game menu and scroll to “Multiplayer”.
  3. Once there, select “Settings” and enter a Multiplayer Passcode. It could be anything, but as long as you and your friends entered and matched correctly, that’s all that matters. These passwords only allow you to see each other, not millions of other players.
  4. Now that this is done, any person who won’t be a host should use a special item in the multiplayer menu called the Little Gold Effigy. Aka, anyone should do this except the person who needs help in a boss fight or a difficult area. This will prompt a message that says “Sending Cooperative flag to catch pool”.
  5. If you don’t have the Little Golden Statue, head back to the first area just outside the Stranded Cemetery and check out the Tree Sentinel. He will be leaning against the Martyr Effigy of the region. Speaking of which…
  6. The landlord needs to find a small statue of Martyr Effigy, especially in the area where he or she needs help. These are small, rampant statues with outstretched arms, often found at dungeon entrances or outside boss arenas.
  7. Interact with the little Golden Effigy to open the summoning pool that spawns a symbol that will allow you to summon friends using matching passwords. You should now be able to bring them in!

How does the Elden Ring cluster work?

Players brought to the Elden Ring as relegated Phantoms aren’t as powerful as they are in their own world. They have half as many Bottles as they normally would, and their stats are often weakened for two top players’ lower-level mates to keep bosses from standing all over them.

Coop is also triggered with a specific target in mind – aka the boss of the area. Wherever the Host triggers Martyr Effigy, this effectively makes everything a quest. For example, if the hosts bring players to Stormveil Castle, the goal is to destroy the Castle boss, Inoculated Godrick. Once this is done the mission is over and the Ghosts are sent back to their game.

How many people can play Elden Ring coop?

Elden Ring cluster supports up to three simultaneous players; a Host of Fingers and two golden Phantoms to support them. It’s also not cross-platform, so players can’t fight with friends on other consoles or computers.

When does coop multiplayer open in Elden Ring?

As far as we can tell, the Elden Ring coop multiplayer unlocks in the Elden Ring upon completion of the tutorial, leaving Stranded Graveyard in the grassy realm of Limgrave and the Lands Between. However, we don’t recommend triggering it just yet – the multiplayer set is based on objectives and you usually have to explore it in the first few hours. Still, look for Martyr Effigies and make a note so you know where you can attract allies in a pinch.

How do you get summoned by random players?

Players who are happy to be summoned by anyone can use a multiplayer menu item called Tarnished’s Furled Finger, located right next to the Little Golden Effigy. This places a gold symbol that appears in random players’ games and can be triggered by them, where the player is standing.

However, these symbols cannot be seen until the potential presenter uses an item called Furlcalling Finger Remedy in that menu – they are invisible and cannot be used until they are used. So, if you want to summon allies, use the Furlcalling Finger Solution and you will see the symbols left by those who use Blackened’s Furry Finger. Fortunately, these names are very simple.
