How to Create a Front End Login Page in WordPress

WordPress is a very powerful platform that comes with many ready-made solutions for your website. Despite the excellent functionality, these solutions are not always ideal. Such is the case with the WordPress default login functionality. It can be confusing for visitors who want to log into their account on your site when they are suddenly redirected to the WordPress admin area. So unless your visitors have something to do in the admin area, like writing a post or sharing some content, there’s not much point in posting them there after they’re logged in. Therefore, enabling your visitors to log into your site directly from the front end can provide a much more satisfying user experience.

Why Is It Better To Have A Front-End Home Page?

Before we show you how to create a front-end login page in WordPress, let’s list a few reasons why it might be useful for you:

Frankly, any website makes a much better impression if the login page isn’t the default WordPress login screen we’ve seen many times. A customized front-end login page shows your visitors that you are striving to provide a better user experience, that you care about your brand, and that every detail has been thought of. And considering how easily you can add a stylish front-end login page to your WordPress site, there’s not much reason not to.

Today we will show you how simple it is to implement a front-end login page using the Theme My Login plugin.

The fact that the Theme My Login plugin has over 100,000 active installs speaks for itself about its reliability and effectiveness. We chose this plugin over some other plugins because it is incredibly simple to use, requires no configuration to create a custom login page, and is completely free. The plugin ensures that the pages match your current theme, have the same font and colors as the theme you are using. It works right out of the box without the need to customize any settings. In addition, the plugin adds a new widget to your site that you can place in your sidebar, footer or header area, making signing in or signing up easily accessible.

We’ll assume you already know how to install a WordPress plugin, so we’ll skip this step. But if you encounter any problems during the installation process, be sure to check the link above.

Theme Venture

After installing and activating the plugin, it’s time to install it. Let’s take a look at the settings that Theme My Login offers.

Setting Theme Enterprise Plugin

The plugin creates five new pages immediately after activation. You will find login, logout, registration, lost password and password reset page. They are live instantly and will replace the backend login page by default.

In our case this is what the login page looks like, the plugin automatically generated it with fonts and colors that match our theme’s style:

sign in

To configure these pages, click My Theme in your WordPress admin and then general choice.

Theme Enterprise General

Here you will find the settings and links to them to customize each of the five pages. The settings are divided into three sections: Login, Registration and Information.

In the login settings, choose whether you want visitors to enter default credentials such as username or email, username only, or only email when signing in. It’s up to you to choose the type of setting that works best for your site.

General Introduction

In the registration settings you specify what data the user must enter in order to open an account on your site. You can choose from the default option to request both username and email, or you can request email only or username only. However, note that the registration settings must match the login settings. If you have decided in the login options to limit users to login with a username, here you need to make sure that they also have to create that username during registration.

You also have more options here that are disabled by default, but you can enable them if you want. The first allows users to set their own passwords, and the second automatically logs users in after registration.

record

An identifier is a unique identifier for each page on your WordPress site. This is the part of the URL that comes after your domain that determines which page the user will view. Theme My Login plugin creates a simple info for each of the pages it creates. In general, when it comes to slugs, they should clearly state what the page means. In this case, the plugin’s auto-generated slugs are actually ideal. Of course, you can change them if you see fit. Just watch out for the empty spaces on the slugs, as they will be replaced with a “20%” sign, which can quickly render your slugs unsuitable. You can use a hyphen instead (for example, “home page” instead of “home page”).

snails

And don’t forget to save the changes after making all the settings.

My Home Widget How To Add Theme To Your Site?

As we mentioned, the plugin comes with a handy widget that you can add to the sidebar or footer. To access, go to: Appearance > Widgets and choose My Theme Plugin widget. Clicking on it will open a drop-down menu and you will be able to choose in which widget area to place the widget.

Add Theme Venture Widget

Once you add the widget to a widget area, you can start customizing it. To do this, find and open the appropriate widget area on the right side of the screen. Inside, you should see the Theme Initiative widget. Turn this on too and you will be able to choose whether you want to log in, sign up or recover lost password functionality.

Added My Theme Login Widget

You can add up to three widgets to your widget areas and choose a different option for each. However, this is not recommended as they often take up a lot of space. To see the widget you added, you need to log out of your account or open the site in an incognito tab.

Useful Extensions for Theme Venture

Theme My Login plugin supports a wide variety of extensions that are very useful but not free. At the time of writing this, the plugin supports Mailchimp, Avatar, Notifications, Favorites, Restrict, Legacy Package, etc. It supports 13 different extensions. The free version of the plugin, on the other hand, will meet your basic needs in terms of front-end login. , these extensions can be useful if you need additional functionality.

Let’s summarize

Signing in isn’t something visitors particularly look forward to when they land on your site, but if you’re already running a sign-in-required site type, why not make it as smooth and easy as possible? Given how competitive the online world can be, every detail that brings more quality to the user experience is important, and a front-end login page is something that can dramatically improve UX as well as help strengthen your brand image.
