These Pokemon Go Mega Ampharos Raid counters will allow you to catch this Mega Pokemon. There aren’t many in Pokemon Go, so when one returns it’s always a good idea for trainers to fight them and gain valuable Mega Energy.

Starting Tuesday, February 15, Mega Ampharos will be returning to Raids in Pokemon Go. This Electric and Dragon-type Pokemon is a powerful addition to any Pokemon Go team. The mix of his typing and moves can be used to take down many Legendary and other Megas.

Mega Ampharos will be available for a few weeks, so trainers will want to go out and fight as much as possible. To help speed this up, we’ve compiled this handy guide to battling Mega Ampharos with everything trainers need to know.

Mega Ampharos Counters

Being Electric and Dragon-type makes Mega Ampharos vulnerable to Ice, Fairy, Dragon, and Ground-type attacks. Fortunately for trainers, there are many options for exploiting these weaknesses. But what you choose will likely depend on the Pokemon you have and the Megas you have.

Trainers looking to bring in a Mega, there really are only three options. Mega Charizard X is an always strong Dragon type Mega with powerful moves to exploit Mega Ampharos’ Dragon weakness. Mega Altaria is another Dragon Mega that also has the advantage of being Fairy type. Powerful moves like Dragon Pulse and Community Day-exclusive Moonblast will deal massive damage.

Anyone who wants to bring in an abundance of Ice types will want to bring Mega Abomasnow. His attacks also amplify your team’s Ice-type moves as they shatter in Mega Ampharos.

Legendary Dragons like Zekrom, Dialga, and Palkia all have options to damage Mega Ampharos while resisting their attacks, but we’ll get into all of them in the next section.

Mega Ampharos Moves

Interesting enough, Mega Ampharos really only benefit from one of its kind: electricity. Mega Ampharos has five different Electric type moves, Fast and Charged. These deal a lot of damage to Water and Flying types, but are resisted by any Ground, Dragon, and Grass types you bring into battle.

Mega Ampharos can know a Dragon move, Dragon Slash, but only through the Community Day event. This means that Ampharos you encounter in Raids won’t have this move and your Dragons won’t have to worry about it.

However, Mega Charizard X and Mega Abomasnow are weak against the Power Gem, so trainers will be wary of it. Abomasnow is also weak against Focus Blast, which is a powerful Fight-type move, so be sure to take a look at the suggested screen to see what types it recommends you bring.

A very powerful Ground option, Excadrill resists all Mega Ampharos attacks except Focus Blast. Another powerful Ground option, Groudon resists all moves from Mega Ampharos but takes Focus Blast as neutral.

The only Pokemon on our list that resist Focus Blast are Mega Altaria and Rayquaza, which are neutrally hit by the Power Gem. However, the Dragon and Flying-type Rayquaza are weak against the Gem of Power and are neutrally hit by Ampharos’ Electric moves. While it may not seem like a great option, powerful Dragon moves and stats are desirable.
