Aujane Ellis talks about how Serena Williams inspired her niece
Aunjanue Ellis Oracene Price, who plays the role of Serena and Venus’ mother, revealed how inspiring the movie is in an interview. Ellis talked about how her niece was impressed by Serena and went to gymnastics classes.
“My nine-year-old nephew saw the movie at least twice, as far as I can tell, the night it came out. He watched it again while in the bathroom. The next morning she had to go to the gym and she told my sister she said ‘I don’t feel like it’ and my sister asked her ‘well, what would Serena do?’ said. and my niece was like, ‘okay. OK. I will go’. That’s all I needed. That movie directly inspired my nephew to get up on Saturday morning and go to the gym.“said.
Ellis also said she felt it was her responsibility to portray Oracene’s character and show the sacrifices she made for her daughters and show her the respect she deserves. Will Smith, who plays the lead character of Richard Williams, said he was honored to be a part of the film and to bring this incredible story to life.
