Iga Swiatek expresses ‘disappointment’ over Simona Halep’s positive drug test and eventual suspension

World No.1 Iga Swiatek spoke about by Simona Aleppo Doping scandal ahead of the 2022 WTA Finals. Aleppo tested positive for drugs a few weeks ago. She tested positive for Roxadustat, a banned substance, after which she was temporarily suspended. However, Aleppo claimed that he did not knowingly take any prohibited substances and promised to clear his name as soon as possible.

Swiatek, who is currently in Fort Worth for the WTA Finals, answered a question to the media about Simona Halep’s doping debacle. She said the news was very confusing to her because she didn’t expect it at all. She said that Aleppo is a person who cannot cheat for herself and is a very good example for her.

“It definitely confused me because I didn’t expect to hear this news.” Swiatek said the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth is ahead of the WTA Finals. “Simona seems like someone who always cares about fairness, from my point of view, and she was a great example for me.”

He later added that he doesn’t know much about the logistics of Aleppo’s situation, but he hopes the whole fiasco will be clearer to fans in the near future. He also expressed his disappointment and said that he sympathizes with the 31-year-old Romanian.

“So I hope… I don’t know how it works in terms of the system they’re going to make… Will it be tested a few more times? Hopefully, it will be clearer for the fans and for us. But yeah, it’s kind of disappointing and he must be feeling really bad.” she loved it.

With Aleppo temporarily banned, Swiatek will play the final tournament of the season in Fort Worth this week and will once again enter as favourites. He is the best seed and will try to win WTA Finals For the 9th title of the season.
