Ekaterina Alexandrova loser Aryna Sabalenka to win their second WTA singles title. Alexandrova defeated Sabalenka 7-5, 6-0. Libema Open 2022 Champion at ‘s-Hertogenbosch. It was a very competitive match between two players who were banned from Wimbledon. The first set was an extremely tumultuous affair as Sabalenka took the lead by breaking Alexandrova’s serve. However, Alexandrova immediately took a break and eventually closed the set 7-5.
After the loss in the first set Sabalenka was out of order and the first seed in ‘s-Hertogenbosch was broken twice in the second set and continued to lose the game. Alexandrova was stellar with her comebacks and anchored the lead and her strong serves helped her finish the game smoothly. Despite playing an almost flawless game, it was again Sabalenka’s mental breakdown that caused Sabalenka to completely disintegrate in the second set.

Ekaterina Alexandrova is ranked 30th in the world and this victory in the Netherlands put her at number 27 and also jumped to number 16 in the race leading up to the WTA Tour finals. Ekaterina restrained herself after beating the first set 2-4, the first seeded looked like she would fly away with the set, but Ekaterina’s defenses caused Sabalenka to lose the game as she lost the first set 7-5. completely devastated.
Sabalenka’s lack of ability to handle pressure caused her to miss some of the most important moments of her career. The other major weakness in Sabalenka’s play was her second serve and Alexandrova took advantage of her way to the title. Sabalenka would try to get some mental training because top 10 players with such tremendous talents are not expected to miss out on opportunities like this. Fans were frustrated by Aryna’s downfall, but they also appreciated Ekaterina’s courage.
