Emma Raducanu He has had a very bad season so far. The British teenager stunned the world last year by becoming the first qualifier in tennis history to win a grand slam title. He won the US Open as a qualifier and did so without dropping a single set. But since his dream, Raducanu has largely underperformed and did not surrender as promised.

There is a lot of pressure on Raducanu and he is asked about his poor form almost every week. Before his big fight with Serena Williams in Cincinnati, Raducanu was once again asked about his form and the possibility of losing a truckload of points if he doesn’t do well at the US Open.
A disappointed Raducanu said with confidence that he would start at the bottom again, even if he lost 2000 points at the US Open. He said he knew he was doing something no one else had ever done, and that he wasn’t afraid to start all over again.
“I can’t count how many times I’ve been asked this question,” he said. “If I lose 2000 points, so be it, I will start again from the bottom. I know I can do something no one else has done. I qualified and I won the US Open so I can start over, start from scratch and I’m not afraid of it.” said Raducanu.

Emma Raducanu reflects back on her journey
Raducanu also said that he believes everything that happens to him is part of his journey, and that’s probably because he came to the biggest scenes without playing much at the grassroots level.
“I think everything that’s happening right now is probably on my journey, and at some point I have to go through these developmental stages because I missed them.” said Raducanu. “I went from playing 25k to winning the US Open.”
In the first round of the Cincinnati Open, Raducanu will face 23-time grand slam champion Serena Williams in a dream match. This will be Serena’s penultimate tournament, so the match against Raducanu will become even more important.
