Galaxy Note 7 VS Galaxy S7 Edge: What are the differences between the two?

Last year Samsung didn’t want to launch the Note 5 in Europe because it was too close to the Galaxy S6 Edge+ but this year they are launching the Note 7 in Europe while the S7 Edge is already 5.5 inches diagonally. This is somewhat contradictory, even if the manufacturer itself admitted its fault for not launching the Galaxy Note 5 in Europe last year.

So we wanted to see if there were any real differences between the two.

Design

There are no big differences in size, Note 7 is only 0.2 inch taller more and both have a curved screen. In terms of dimensions, we’re at 153.5 x 73.9 x 7.9mm for the Note and 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7mm for the Edge. Therefore the differences are minimal, the only thing that really changes is the shape. Indeed, the Note 7 is much more square than the rounded S7 Edge. We’ll see what you get.

Almost the same technical page

hard to see the difference between two models at the technical datasheet level. The same processor (Exynos 8890 at 2.3 GHz), the same RAM (4 GB), almost the same internal memory with the possibility of expansion (the S7 Edge is available in a 64 GB version, even though it has 32 GB as standard), the same rear and front cameras, the same fingerprint reader and IP68 waterproofing.

In short, they’re almost twins from a purely technical standpoint, after all, the only difference is the iris scanner and the battery. 3500 mAh in Note 7 (already 500mAh more than Note 5). If the battery seems insufficient, keep in mind that Samsung has introduced a new chip, mDNIe, which, among other things, is expected to improve autonomy.

We should not forget that the Note 7 also has a USB Type C socket, while the Edge has a simple micro USB socket.

S-Pen, big difference

We get there, but in the end the real difference between the two models is the S-Pen, the main feature of the Note series. And this year, Samsung did the right thing by making its stylus more precise, thin and light. It also gains functionality such as live translation. In the end, this is what allows the Note to gain productivity compared to the Galaxy S7 Edge.

A price that might scare people away

If the S7 Edge had been €799 at launch, it ended up with a stylus, an iris scanner and an additional 32GB of memory, making a difference of just €50 to the Note 7’s launch price. Now the S7 Edge is easily around 700 Euros, right there the price difference is bigger and it might make more than one thought given the small difference between the two.
