Since the launch of the OnePlus 5, we have done many comparisons of the device to the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7 Plus. Our colleagues from GSMArena tested the sensors of these three smartphones in many conditions to see the qualities and flaws. We could expect dual sensors to excel over the Galaxy S8’s single sensor… and yet the latter clearly stands out from the rest!
It works better in almost any situation, especially when the light is not good. The test starts with classic photos in sunny weather. We can quickly see that the approach of the iPhone 7 Plus is different from the other two, preferring a dynamic range of colors rather than the more vibrant colors as seen in the photos of the S8 and OP5.
Galaxy S8 vs iPhone 7 Plus vs OnePlus 5: Who has the best photo sensor?
These bright colors, which are nice in some shots, can affect the level of detail. For example what we see in the photo showing the roses. Later, the verdict was confirmed: the iPhone 7 Plus is better than the others when both the light and shadow of the shot scene are good. The other two lose detail. But in low light conditions the situation changes dramatically.
Noise on the iPhone 7 Plus hurts details, while photos on the OnePlus 5 are particularly dark and lack detail. Without a doubt, the photos of the S8 are far ahead. In the tests below, we quickly notice the same in low light. The Galaxy S8 is very successful, followed by the iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus 5.
