Disable Send to Your Devices in Chrome

Google Chrome’s ‘Send to Your Devices’ feature, while incredibly useful, can occasionally misfire. It sends links to any of your other devices in a matter of seconds and is pretty handy if you regularly use multiple devices. However, it’s not for everyone. That’s why you can disable Send to Your Devices in Chrome.

Maybe you prefer the old-fashioned way of bookmarking web pages you want to visit on your other devices. Or you’ll find the little ‘Send’ icon popping up in the address bar every time you click it to distract you. Or it could be a cheeky family member constantly harassing you with tabs.

Whatever the reason, you can quite easily disable ‘Send to Your Devices’ on any of your desired devices. So, without further ado, let’s start with the desktop version of Chrome (Windows and macOS), and then look at the Android and iOS versions of the web browser, respectively.

Disable Send to Your Devices on Desktop

Disabling ‘Send to Your Devices’ in Chrome on a Windows or macOS device requires you to turn off the Open Tabs sync setting. Doing so will remove the ‘Send’ icon located in the address bar. Also, when you right-click web pages, you won’t see ‘Send to Your Devices’ options in the context menu.

However, turning this sync setting off will also prevent you from seeing any of the active tabs on your other devices while pointing to the History option in the Chrome menu. If that’s not a problem, here are the exact steps you need to follow to disable ‘Send to Your Devices’ in Chrome.

Stage 1: Open the Chrome menu (click the three dots in the upper-right corner of the window) and then click Settings.

Step 2: Click Sync and Google Services under the People section.

Stage 3: Click on the option labeled Manage Sync.

Step 4: Turn off the switch next to Open Tabs.

Note:

This should disable ‘Send to Your Devices’. Note that when launching ‘Send to Your Devices’ the device may still appear on your other devices, but the tabs you sent will not.

Disable Send to Your Devices on Android

Just like on desktop, to disable ‘Send to Your Devices’ in Chrome on your Android smartphone, you need to turn off the Open Tabs sync setting. But once again, turning this setting off will also prevent you from seeing open tabs on your other devices every time you tap Recent Tabs in the Chrome menu.

Stage 1: Open the Chrome menu (tap the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner of the screen) and then tap Settings. On the Settings screen that opens, tap Sync and Google Services.

Step 2: Tap Manage Sync. In the list of sync settings that appears, uncheck the box next to Open Tabs.

Note:

Now when you restart Chrome you should no longer see the ‘Send to Your Devices’ option when you try to share a webpage in Chrome. Also, web pages sent from other devices will not appear.

Disable Send to Your Devices on iOS

Turning the Open Tabs sync setting off in Chrome for iOS disables the ‘Send to Your Devices’ option on the Chrome Share Sheet and prevents links sent from other devices from appearing. This will also prevent you from seeing active tabs on your other devices every time you visit the Recent Tabs section in the Chrome tab switcher.

Stage 1: Open the Chrome menu (tap the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner of iPad or lower-right corner on iPhone). Next, tap on Settings.

Step 2: Tap the option labeled Sync and Google Services

Stage 3: Tap Manage Sync.

Step 4: Turn off the switch next to Open Tabs.

Note:

Tap Done to finish disabling ‘Send to Your Devices’ in Chrome for iOS.

Unless you intend to use ‘Send to Your Devices’ in Chrome, it won’t hurt to disable the feature. Note that doing this will also prevent you from seeing active tabs across your devices.

If you want the ‘Send to Your Devices’ feature again later, go back to the Manage Sync screen on your device and enable the Open Tabs option. Things should go back to normal then.
