WhatsApp allows Android users to log in using password keys without a password

Last week, Google announced that Passkeys would be the default authentication method for its users on personal accounts. In the announcement, Google also noted increased support for toggles, listing some companies that have already enabled them on their apps and websites, with WhatsApp being one of the companies that will soon be compatible.

As seen in the video clip shared by Meta on social media, Passcode access allows you to use the device’s face and/or touch ID to sign inIt provides a safer and faster login process that is less likely to be hacked. Passkeys also use advanced encryption, which further increases the security of the login process.

Password keys are coming to WhatsApp on Android

Passkeys replace your traditional password with unique cryptographic key pairs so only you can log in. The key stored on your device is provided upon successful biometric authenticationIt eliminates the need for two-factor authentication methods such as sending OTPs via SMS or email.

Signing in is quick and easy because it uses the screen lock method you already use on your phone. Additionally, this login procedure lets you know that your newly generated key is stored in Google’s password manager. this allows it to be used on other devices where you’re signed in to your Google account.

Passkeys also protect users from the dangers of password reuse and phishing attempts. As a reminder, one study showed that:The average Internet user had approximately 150 online accounts. 52% continued to use the same password.

Passkeys were previously tested in WhatsApp’s beta channel but are now available to all users of the app on Android. Although there is no news yet regarding support for WhatsApp Password Keys on iPhones, we now know that Android support will be available in the coming weeks and months.
