Snapchat – Difference Between Do Not Disturb and Mute

There was a time when you had to block a person or remove them from your friends list entirely if you wanted to avoid that person on Snapchat.

While you can still do this, these methods may not be the best possible solutions for the question at hand. For one, people can easily find out that you’ve blocked or removed them from your friend list.

If you don’t want to risk these people finding out, you should be familiar with two new Snapchat features: Do Not Disturb and Mute.

These two great features may sound the same, but there are actually important differences. This article will examine both of these options and help you use them in the best possible way.

Snapchat’s Do Not Disturb Feature

Imagine the following scenario. You have joined a new Snapchat group with five other people. You thought it would be fun to join a new group, but you’re constantly getting tons of unnecessary group notifications.

That’s when you can use Do Not Disturb and all your notification problems will be solved. Once you enable this function, you will no longer receive notifications from that group. Of course, the Do Not Disturb function can also be used on individual contacts.

As with other popular apps, you already know this feature. For example, you can mute a conversation to mute notifications from certain groups on Facebook. This is basically the same thing.

Snapchat’s Silent Feature

While technically muting a specific person or an entire group, Snapchat’s mute feature is quite different.

Let’s explain through an example.

Let’s say you have a family member on your Snapchat friends list whose stories you’re absolutely not interested in. Maybe you have people in your Snapchat friends list whose story content annoys or annoys you.

In any case, you don’t want to see their stories, but you don’t want to remove them from your friends list either. So what can you do?

Well, Snapchat has considered this scenario and the new Mute feature in recent Snapchat updates. Using it, you can easily “block” stories from appearing on your Snapchat.

Of course, you can try to manually block stories from certain people, but that would be unnecessary work. Simply use the mute feature; Stories will not appear in your app. In fact, they will be pushed to the end of the story list. What’s more, the stories of people you mute don’t even appear in the story slideshow.

The same feature is also visible in the Instagram app where all you have to do is tap and hold on a particular story and select the mute option.

How Long Do These Features Last?

Once you know what these two great features can do, you must be wondering how long they can keep your “peace” on social media after using them. Need to reset them after a certain time?

We have some good news. Both of these features last as long as you want. There are no options where you can set the exact duration, but they are not automatically disabled.

In other words, if you want to unmute a particular contact or disable Do Not Disturb, you will have to do it manually.

Can Your Contacts See Your Story?

No matter what feature you just used, your contacts will be able to see everything you’ve shared in your story. You see, when you mute a certain person, you won’t be able to see their stories, but they will still be able to see yours.

How Do You Use These Features?

The following steps will show you how to enable both of these features for your contacts:

  1. Open your Snapchat app
  2. Open your friend list
  3. Tap the profile picture of the friend you want to use these features for.
  4. choose settings
    Snapchat Do Not Disturb
  5. Choose between Mute Story or Do Not Disturb from the popup window

Mute Snapchat

If you select Mute Story, a new pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm your selection.

Use Every Snapchat Feature for Better User Experience

To finish the article, we will mention one last thing regarding both of these features that may give you a little more satisfaction if you are so keen on it and the fact that these features are completely anonymous. The other person or persons will not understand what you are doing.
