Tinder has changed dating forever. It has made life easier for some, and meeting someone special is much less stressful. For others, Tinder has made a numbers game that works for everyone, as it’s a completely level playing field. But like our culture, Tinder itself is forever changing. Since its launch, it has been adding and removing new features, constantly testing it to see what can increase its revenue while serving its users. One of these features is called “Tinder Plus”.
What do you get with Tinder Plus?
Tinder Plus users get a number of upgrades, including:
- Unlimited swipe right every day
- The ability to “rewind” when muscle memory takes over when you don’t want to
- Ad turn off feature
- Option to change your location to anywhere in the world
- Five free Super Likes per day (instead of one per day as a free user)
You can also hide your age and control who can see your profile. There is also a feature called Tinder Boost that makes your profile the best profile in your area for 30 minutes and helps you get more matches. Tinder Plus users get 1 free Boost every month. Tinder Plus won’t be for everyone, but for those who are really serious about dating, it’s an obvious boon to your profile.
How much does Tinder Plus cost?
Tinder plus is the “premium” part of the dating app. Standard Tinder is free to use, but Tinder Plus is paid. It’s currently $9.99 a month if you’re under 30, and $19.99 a month if you’re over 30. Yes, that’s right: You pay more as you get older. You can’t get more for your extra $10 per month. You don’t get ahead of the queue, you don’t get more features, and you get no advantage over younger users. But there are huge discounts if you pay biannually or annually: six months are only $5.83 per month if you’re under 30, and 12 months are only $4.58 a month.
Does Tinder Plus get you more matches?
The question everyone wants to know before subscribing to Tinder Plus is whether it will get more matches. In short, maybe. Membership makes it easy to manage the app, which can help you be more efficient at speaking matches, meeting people, and connecting. The Boost function also puts you in front of many more people, increasing your chances of being swiped right. But if your profile isn’t flawless, Tinder Plus won’t be able to help you. Even though Tinder stopped using its controversial Elo rating in March 2019, matches are still based on specific likes based on who each user is swiping towards, and that means you need to have a great profile to get matches. This means quality images with smiling and supportive images, a fun or interesting biography, and the ability to say more than “Hello” when talking to someone. These elements can get you more success on Tinder than paying for a premium service.
How to tell if someone has Tinder Plus
Can you tell if someone has Tinder Plus? There are only two ways to tell if someone has Tinder Plus.
- You can’t see their age on their profile.
- They are too far away or do not have a geolocation attached to their profile.
Standard users cannot hide their age and can only search for them locally. Tinder Plus users have the option to hide their distance from you using Passport.
Is Tinder Plus worth it?
Is it worth it? This depends on how much you plan to use Tinder and where you live. If you live in a big city with hundreds or thousands of Tinder users and use it often, Tinder Plus can be a big boost in your game. If you live in a place with a limited number of Tinder users or are an occasional user, it may not be worth your money.
There’s one exception though: if you’re willing to travel to meet people. If you work on the road or travel a lot, the Passport feature lets you save up to four locations and check who is in each one. This can certainly have advantages for very active people.
Tinder Plus can be useful if you’re under 30 and live in a major metro area. For everyone else, it totally depends on what you want from the platform. Do you use Tinder Plus? Do you find the cost worthwhile? Tell us below!
Tinder Plus… but Better
Tinder has introduced another premium package called “Tinder Gold”. It includes all the features of Tinder Plus and adds one more: “She Loves You.” Tinder Gold subscribers can see if someone swipes over them before they swipe right. Tinder Gold is $4.99 per month (in addition to Tinder Plus fees).
But unlike Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold provides some serious extra matches. Tinder said that during testing, Tinder Gold users received 60 percent more matches than standard users. If you want to improve your matching game, this feature is one that you might want to swipe right on.
