While Hinge takes a different direction from Tinder and is more about quality than quantity, it’s still online dating and can still be a soul-destroying experience. If you want to time out or need to leave everything behind, this tutorial will show you how to completely delete your Hinge account.
If you’re lucky, you found your significant other on Hinge and are deleting your account because you no longer need it. If this is true, well done! If you are tired of online dating and you are deleting your account out of frustration, you are not alone. Some users I know delete their account only to create a new one after a month or so. Either way, deleting any online dating account can be a liberating experience!
Hinge
The USP of the hinge is quality over quantity. Instead of giving you access to every possible match in your area, you get ten leads per day. If you see something later, you can select them and ‘like’ them just like you do on Facebook. You can ‘like’ their image, something they say, a comment or anything else.
The main difference here is that it’s not about accepting or rejecting. It’s all about engaging the person in the conversation and seeing where it goes. If someone comments on your profile, it matches them on the ‘Who Likes You’ page and you can go from there.
Hinge aims to avoid this double left or right shift with something more thoughtful and hopefully more thoughtful. Whether it is successful or not depends on personal experience. It makes it easy to start a conversation by demonstrating the ability to comment on something in the profile. It also makes the choices considered more important, as the number of options you’ll see on a given day is limited.
How to delete your Hinge account?
If you have been there and done this and want to delete your Hinge account. I’ll show you how soon. First off, did you know that you can pause your Hinge account? If you’re taking a break or seeing if someone has turned into someone important in your life, it may be a viable alternative to delete it altogether.
There is no official pause or suspend function, but it is easy to do. It may be more useful than deleting your account. Since I don’t want to bury the thread any further, I’ll show you how to delete your Hinge account and then show you how.
To delete your Hinge account:
- Visit Play Store or App Store and unsubscribe.
- Select Settings from the Hinge app on your phone.
- Select Account and Delete Account.
- Confirm your selection.
- Uninstall Hinge.
- Go to Facebook on your desktop.
- Select Application Settings and uninstall Hinge as authorized application.
You must cancel the subscription as well as the account, otherwise you will be billed again. The two actions are handled independently by your app store, not by Hinge. Unsubscribing is the only way to prevent you from being billed further.
Simply uninstalling the app won’t delete your account or make you disappear from other people’s Discover page. To avoid being seen by others, you must manually cancel the account. This is an important thing to know if you’ve ever met someone, as misunderstandings are so easy!
Pause your Hinge account
Hinge does not officially have a pause option, only an active and cancel option. There is a way to get around this using mechanisms built into the app. You can set your location or deal breaker to something impossible so that your profile doesn’t show up on anyone’s list of potential matches.
You can set your location to a distant place like Greenland or Antarctica and set a mile radius or use deal breakers. You can set a minimum height of 8 feet or something conveniently impossible and activate deal breakers on your profile. That way, you won’t show up on anyone’s Explore page unless someone has set Greenland or a very tall one as their selection criteria.
If you want to be extra sure that you are not recognized, you can replace your six pictures with blank ones. Create six blank images on your computer and replace them in your Hinge account. You can always keep your profile pictures on Facebook so that they are retrieved when you create a new account.
- Select Settings from the Hinge.
- Select the pencil icon to edit your profile.
- Select My Photos & Videos and deselect what’s on your profile.
- Replace them with blank ones by selecting the ‘+’ icon at the top.
- Select Done.
Changing your pictures would probably be unnecessary, but if you want to be even more sure that you are not recognized, it only takes a moment!
