How to Change Your Position on the Hinge 1

How to Change Your Position on the Hinge

The first version of Hinge didn’t let you make much changes. That’s all after you upload your data from Facebook. You could have solved this problem if you had moved to a different city, but it was not very intuitive. The redesigned dating app is now much easier to use and allows you to change your profile, including your location on Hinge.

Most of us will never need to change our location, but we may want to revisit our profile regularly. If you’re having success with the hinge, you may want to leave it as it works. If you don’t have the success you want, then you will make changes. Modifying the hinge is now simple, but still requires the same thought as to what to change it to.

Change your location on Hinge

You can change your location as many times as you want. This is useful if you’re traveling and want to date in your new city, or if you’re going to college or just moving to the city. Whatever the reason, the process only takes a second.

  1. Open Hinge and sign in.
  2. Select the Settings icon at the bottom left of the screen.
  3. Select Preferences and My Neighborhood.
  4. Select the compass icon on the map and drag it to your location.

You can do this as many times as you want, but it may require you to drag the icon to the desired location on the map if it doesn’t pick up the change. The map may need some gentle persuasion to change. Mine still did. I had to turn my phone’s GPS on for a minute and then off again. I guess this caused the location on the phone to update which in turn caused the Hinge to update.

Managing your profile on Hinge

Changing your profile is as easy as editing your location on Hinge. You may want to first see your profile as others see it and then evaluate it objectively before making changes. Better still, ask someone you trust for their opinion and go from there.

To view your profile as others will see it, do this:

  1. Select the Settings icon in the lower left part of the window.
  2. Select the Pen icon to open the editor.
  3. Select View at the top to view your profile as others will see it within the app.
In relation :  TikTok finally lets you chat with groups of friends directly from the app

Now you can see yourself as others will see you. An ideal way to see what works and what doesn’t. You can take a screenshot or just remember before making any changes.

To edit your profile, simply repeat steps 1 and 2 above to access the editor and make changes from there.

  1. Select the Settings icon in the lower left part of the window.
  2. Select the Pen icon to open the editor.
  3. Make your changes and save.

Creating a dating profile that works is both science and art and takes trial and error. If you don’t succeed at first, change something and try again. If you have friends you trust with a demographic similar to the demographic you are targeting, their advice can be invaluable. Getting their input on how your profile is read and how your pictures look can mean the difference between success and failure. What you think is attractive or your best feature may not actually be what others think. Getting a second opinion or a third, fourth or whatever might really help.

Unique things to work in Hinge

If you want to increase your chances on the dating app, there are a few Hinge-specific features you might want to pay special attention to. One is Dealbreakers and the other is Preferences.

Deal breakers are a neat feature that lets you specify something in a dating profile that will definitely rule someone out. They work like search filters, filtering out any profiles that contain something you added to your deal breaker. For example, if you’re against drugs and someone’s flaws have drugs, they won’t appear in your Discovery window.

Preferences are similar but not strictly defined. Where breaking the deal would be the absolute rule, preferences become more ‘like having’. To reflect the current situation, Hinge even added a political opinion option. It includes all things liberal, conservative, moderate and the ‘other’.

Preferences are optional, but the more you add, the better Hinge will adjust to what you’re looking for. Political opinions are strictly optional and are something we would only recommend using if you have firm opinions or if you see politics as important as it is currently a divisive issue!
