Snapchat is a fun way to send goofy images to your friends. However, the ephemeral nature of the app’s content, i.e. images deleted as soon as they are shared, makes it an attractive platform for those looking to harass other users. Therefore, it is not surprising that many users may want to block others quickly and easily. Fortunately, Snapchat’s blocking functionality is just that.
How to Block a Friend
If the person you want to block is one of your Snapchat friends, the following steps will do it:
1. Let’s say you are in the camera view that opens when you first open Snapchat. Tap the ghost icon in the upper left corner.
2. Tap My friends.
3. Tap the name of the friend you want to block.
4. Tap the settings icon in the upper right corner of the pop-up window.
5. Tap To obstruct.
6. tap To obstruct again to confirm.
7. Share on Snapchat why you chose to block this person.
How to Block Someone Adding You
Let’s say someone who is not your friend and you don’t want to see your information added you.
1. Tap on the ghost icon in the upper left corner as before.
2. Tap He added me.
3. Tap the name of the user you want to block.
4. Tap the settings icon in the upper right corner of the window that opens.
5. Tap To obstruct.
6. tap To obstruct again to confirm.
7. Share on Snapchat why you chose to block this person.
How Do You Block Someone Chatting With You?
Now, let’s look at how to block someone who hasn’t added you on Snapchat and isn’t your friend, but is sending you chats.
1. Click the chat icon in the lower left corner.
2. Tap the chat with this user.
3. Tap the settings icon in the upper right corner of the window that opens.
4. Tap To obstruct.
5. Tap To obstruct again to confirm.
6. Share on Snapchat why you chose to block this person.
What Blocking Does
Any user you block, whether they are already friends or not, cannot do any of the following:
- Send you a snap
- send you chats
- View your story
If you block a friend on Snapchat, they will no longer appear in your friends list. You will also be removed from their friend list. That’s the only notification they’ll get about the blocking. Snapchat does not notify users otherwise.
How to Unblock Someone
Let’s say you and your old Snapchat friend put on makeup. Now you want to unblock them. Snapchat makes it easy, too.
1. Tap the ghost icon in the upper left corner.
2. Tap the settings icon that appears in the upper right corner.
3. Scroll down Blocked under Account Transactions. Tap.
4. Find the user you want to unblock. Tap . x to the right of their names.
5. Tap Yes to approve.
Blocked friends will not appear in your friends list again. You will need to add them again. As with unblocking, the user will not be notified about unblocking. That job is up to you.
