Why Should You Get iPhone 5s Now?

Apple announced the iPhone 6s during the company’s annual September event last week, but if you want to get your first smartphone or your first iPhone, you should buy the iPhone 5s right now.

While the new device retains the same overall design as last year’s model, the iPhone 6s has a new 3D Touch screen over the iPhone 6, a 12-megapixel camera, and a new rose gold color option.

iPhone 5s still remains in Apple’s iPhone lineup, but it now serves as the entry-level model, coming in at $0 after signing a two-year contract, or contracting the 32GB model for just $49. You can also buy iPhone 5s directly from Apple, starting at $450 without a contract.

It’s currently the cheapest iPhone sold by Apple, and is still the only non-discontinued iPhone available with a smaller 4-inch screen, whereas the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s come with at least 4.7-inch screens and go up to 5.5 iPhone 6 Plus and inch with iPhone 6s Plus.

If you want to buy your first iPhone or your first smartphone for that matter, here is why you should buy iPhone 5s instead of iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s.

Screen size

Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of the iPhone 5s is that it rocks a smaller 4-inch screen. Of course, many users hate smaller screens and if they can get a smartphone with a larger screen they will most likely do just that.

However, some users prefer smaller screens, and those upgrading to larger screens may find that the larger screen is not for them, either because the phone is too big to use or they can’t use the screen enough with their hands.

A larger screen is always tempting, but if you’re just a casual user, the iPhone 5s’ 4-inch display is probably enough for your needs. After all, humanity survived several years until the iPhone 6 was released with a larger screen, which means that the iPhone 5s is still relevant when it comes to screen size.

Features

Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of upgrading from the iPhone 5 to the iPhone 5s was that the iPhone 5s included Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the home button.

While iPhone “S” upgrades are generally quite scarce, the addition of Touch ID has made the iPhone 5s a worthwhile upgrade to avoid having to enter your passcode or type in your Apple ID password every time to purchase an app.

Touch ID remains one of the biggest features on the iPhone to date, so when you get the iPhone 5s it doesn’t feel like you’re buying an old phone.

Plus, the iPhone 5s still takes great photos (if that’s something you care about). Yes, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s come with better cameras that can take better photos, but if you’re not too worried about how well your photos come out, the iPhone 5s will do just fine in the camera department, as it certainly outperforms most point-and-shoot cameras.

Price

Perhaps the best reason to get the iPhone 5s is its price. You can get iPhone 5s on contract for as low as $0.

This means you don’t prepay for the device. Usually, even when signing a new two-year contract, you have to pay around $100-200 upfront for newer smartphones, but the iPhone 5s is completely free.

Also, if you want to buy the iPhone 5s without a contract, you can get it unlocked directly from Apple for only $450; that’s a great number for a smartphone like the iPhone 5s. You can even get it cheaper by buying second-hand from eBay, Craigslist, Swappa, etc.

On eBay, I found unlocked iPhone 5s units for around $250, with some unlocked units even selling for as little as $200 if you’re lucky. That’s a great price for the iPhone 5s, especially when purchased unlocked and without a contract.

So if you find yourself a frugal customer and looking for a new phone, the iPhone 5s might be the perfect iPhone for you.
