Why Did I Bought Verizon iPhone 6s?

iPhone 6s is available in a variety of colors and storage options from many carriers. This weekend I purchased a Verizon iPhone 6s with 64GB of storage in space gray to replace my iPhone 6 and become my new primary smartphone. That’s why I chose the Verizon iPhone 6s over AT&T, T-Mobile or Sprint.

The most important factor in which carrier I choose for my primary phone is the coverage it provides, and while Verizon and AT&T are very close, there are some places where one has an edge over the other. I currently carry Verizon and AT&T iPhones and although I also ordered a Rose Gold iPhone 6s Plus as a review device and for comparisons, the smaller iPhone 6s will still be my main iPhone.

So I bought the Verizon iPhone 6s.

Verizon coverage is excellent in Ohio, where I live, and during my trips around the country I have more reliable coverage on Verizon than I do on AT&T. T-Mobile coverage is improving, and the iPhone 6s uses new tech that will allow T-Mobile towers to double coverage, but even with the option of a test drive on T-Mobile, my primary phone remains on Verizon, which I know can get massive coverage from Sprint’s coverage. area shows too many 3G and non-network roaming areas in Ohio to even be candidates for my next smartphone.

Verizon supports Voice Over LTE on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and it’s also available on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. I like being able to use voice and data at the same time. Other carriers support it, but that’s one reason I can stay on Verizon. I’m upgrading my wife’s iPhone 5s to iPhone 6s so she can receive iMessages while on a call, among other reasons.

There is no support for Verizon WiFi calling on the iPhone 6s, something AT&T and T-Mobile offer. I considered switching to AT&T for this option, but in a situation where I have WiFi and poor service, the people I need to call are all using an iPhone and I can use FaceTime Audio.

Another reason I chose the Verizon iPhone 6s over AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile is because calls from a Verizon device that supports Advanced Calling to another phone sound much better than a regular call. When I make a call from my Verizon iPhone to my family members who have new Verizon devices, calls sound much better than a regular voice call from an old phone or another carrier.

Another great reason I chose the Verizon iPhone 6s is that it’s unlocked right out of the box so I can use it with T-Mobile or AT&T to test other networks and use another SIM card when traveling internationally. I don’t normally travel outside of the US but this is a great option to have.

While it didn’t affect my decision, one reason we bought a Verizon iPhone 6s for my wife is because she can get a $300 trade-in credit for the iPhone 5s.

As for the exact model I chose, I decided to switch from Silver to Space Gray as it matches my Apple Watch Sport, and I miss the black faceplate only found in Space Gray.

I have discussed ordering the iPhone 6s 128GB model, but 64GB is the sweet spot for me right now, especially with iCloud Photo Library. Considering how much space 4K video takes up on iPhone, I’ll have to keep these video files in the cloud or other devices.
