iPhone 6s Jailbreak: What You Need to Know

The iPhone 6s is officially out on September 25, and if you’re interested in jailbreaking the new device, here are some things you should know about jailbreaking the iPhone 6s.

Apple announced the iPhone 6s earlier this month during the company’s annual fall event, where it also announced the iPad Pro and the new Apple TV. But the iPhone 6s was the main event and will be the first product to be released.

The device comes with the same overall design and appearance as the iPhone 6; this is hardly surprising with Apple’s “S” design, as the company has done for years, starting with the iPhone 3GS in 2008.

The new iPhone 6s comes with a faster processor, a better camera, and a new 3D Touch screen similar to the Force Touch screen on the Apple Watch. Depending on the app, it allows users to press hard on the screen to bring up a menu of options and other actions. Or you can tap to select the app and open it normally.

Of course, the camera seems to be one of the biggest features on the iPhone 6s, now it has a 12-megapixel sensor and the ability to record 4K video.

However, if you’re interested in jailbreaking iPhone 6s after you get them, here are some things you should know before you dive deep.

iPhone 6s Jailbreak Status

This summer has been a busy one for jailbreakers and jailbreak developers, especially with an iOS 8.3 jailbreak released in June, followed by an iOS 8.4 jailbreak just a few weeks later. The iOS 8.4 jailbreak was released just hours after the iOS 8.4 update itself was released to the public, making it one of the fastest jailbreaks we’ve seen in a long time.

But iOS 8.4.1 was finally released and fully fixed the iOS 8 jailbreak and we haven’t seen the final jailbroken version of iOS yet, but jailbreakers have their eyes on iOS 9.

iPhone 6s will launch with iOS 9, so when you buy the phone (even if you pre-order it), it will come with iOS 9 out of the box. iOS 9 is great and all but unfortunately it is not currently jailbroken.

Currently, only iOS 8.4.0 and any older version can be jailbroken, so if you’ve updated to iOS 8.4.1 or iOS 9, you won’t be able to jailbreak your device. If you upgraded to iOS 9 you can still downgrade to iOS 8, but you can only downgrade to iOS 8.4.1 as it is the only iOS 8 version signed by Apple, but keep in mind that iOS 8.4.1 will be the same route soon.

As for an iOS 9 jailbreak, we should finally see one (hopefully in the next few months), but there hasn’t been much news about it recently, except for a video from the well-known jailbreak developer showing the iOS 9 jailbreak. iH8sn0w will likely not disclose the exploits it used in the breakout.

This means that TaiG and Pangu (the two jailbreak teams responsible for the last few jailbreak releases) will be on their own to find a way to get into iOS 9.

As for when we’ll see an iOS 9 jailbreak release, the simple answer is that no one knows. Even the jailbreak developers working on the jailbreak themselves probably don’t even know when they’re going to release it, because who knows how long it will take to crack iOS 9.

An iOS 9 jailbreak should also be released at the best possible time. For example, iOS 9.1 is said to be released at some point when the iPad Pro launches in November. It’s highly possible that jailbreak developers will wait until iOS 9.1 is released before releasing an iOS 9 jailbreak. This is to ensure that Apple doesn’t immediately fix the jailbreak in the iOS 9.1 update, that would be a huge downgrade.
