How to Share Your Screen in Google Meet on iPhone and iPad

Google Meet isn’t limited to just using the cameras on your iPhone or iPad to stream video. If you want to give live presentations, showcase ideas, train employees, or do just about anything that involves screencasting, Google Meet makes it more than possible. So how do you share your screen in Google Meet on iPhone and iPad?

I have to admit – Google Meet doesn’t show you a clearly visible ‘Share Screen’ option to start broadcasting during a video meeting (e.g. on Zoom). If you are confused about what you need to do to share the screen on your iPhone or iPad, let’s take a look at the whole process.

I’ll also share a nice tip on what to do if screen sharing isn’t working in Google Meet on iPhone and iPad. So keep reading.

Privacy – enable Do Not Disturb

Before you start screen sharing in Google Meet, it’s always a good idea to consider potential privacy issues. Plan your screen sharing sessions in advance so that you don’t accidentally share your personal data with other attendees, as Google Meet will broadcast everything on your screen without exception.

For example, a great way to prevent notifications or phone calls from popping up and revealing sensitive information during a broadcast session is to turn on Do Not Disturb for your iPhone or iPad.

You can use Control Center to turn Do Not Disturb on/off, but it’s also best to verify that the feature is set to work even when the screen is unlocked.

Go to the Settings app, select Do Not Disturb, then make sure Always is selected under the Silent section. You may also want to set Duplicate Calls to Off (under the Phone section) if you don’t want repeated calls to bypass Do Not Disturb.

Start Sharing Your Screen on Google Meet

When you start or join a meeting in Google Meet, screen sharing on iPhone or iPad is pretty easy as long as you know what to do. Alternatively, you can screen share directly while joining a meeting. Let’s check out both methods below.

Screen Sharing While in a Meeting

Stage 1: To start sharing your screen while in a meeting, start by tapping the video pod. Next, you will see a three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the screen – tap it.

Step 2: Tap Show Screen in the menu that opens.

Stage 3: Tap Start Broadcast.

Google Meet will start a countdown from three to zero. Consider using this time to quickly navigate to the location where you want to start sharing the screen.

The video on your iPhone or iPad will start streaming a live recording of your screen instead of the camera feed. Your microphone and voice will continue to work as usual.

Fly: To cancel the broadcast, tap Stop Broadcast during the countdown.

Screen Sharing While Joining a Meeting

Stage 1: When you are about to join a meeting after entering a meeting code or when starting a scheduled meeting, do not tap Join Meeting. Instead, tap Sun.

Step 2: You will be greeted with a screen with a brief description of screen sharing – click Continue.

Stage 3: Tap Start Broadcast. Google Meet will start a countdown from three to zero before it goes live.

Unlike broadcasting when you join a meeting, this method will mute your microphone by default. Tap the video pane in the Zoom app and tap the Volume Up icon to manually turn up the volume.

Stop Sharing Your Screen on Google Meet

After you finish casting your screen, return to the Google Meet app and then tap End Presentation. This will end the presentation, but you will still be tied to the meeting, which you must leave manually if you wish.

Alternatively, you can pause the broadcast without accessing the Google Meet app. To do this, tap the red icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then tap Stop.

As with the method above, you stay connected to the meeting even if you end the broadcast.

Google Meet Screen Sharing Not Working

If you tap Start Broadcasting while starting to share your iPhone or iPad screen in Google Meet and nothing happens, it’s likely that a Screen Time restriction is preventing this functionality from working. A grayed out Screen Stream icon indicates this fact.

As long as you have access to the Screen Time passcode for your device, you should be able to remove the restriction using the steps below.

Stage 1: Open the Settings app and then tap Screen Time. Then tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.

Step 2: Tap Content Restrictions and enter your Screen Time passcode if prompted. On the next screen, tap Screen Recording.
