How to Select Specific Photos for Widgetsmith iOS

With the release of iOS 14, users were given the ability to customize their home screen with widgets. What is a widget? A widget is very different from an app. Widgets come in various sizes and can show you the weather, photos, reminders, text and much more. There are numerous widgets that provide more functionality, customizability and accessibility to your home screen without having to open an app for the same services.

One of Widgetsmith’s many features is that it lets you put photos on your home screen. If you want to create a curated slideshow, read on!

Install Widgetsmith

This app has three widget sizes with the same features all scaled to their custom sizes:

  • Small (4×4)
  • Medium (2×4)
  • Large (4×4)

Creating a Photo Widget

After downloading Widgetsmith, open the app and you’ll be greeted with three sizes and widgets that you can create and customize. This guide will make a small photo demonstration, but you can follow any size.

Stage 1: click Add a widget.

Step 2: Click Default Widget Text.

You will have many options to choose from and many styles within those options. scroll down until you see Photos tab.

Stage 3: choose Photos in the Album. You will see tabs at the bottom of the screen. Click on the tab titled Selected Album.

Step 4: To choose latest information. Then click the arrow in the left corner to exit this menu.

Step 5: click Save in the upper right corner of the screen.

You will see your new Photo Widget in the list. In the current selection, all photos from your Recents are displayed alternately in the widget. This might work for you if you don’t have a large roll of film, but if you’re recording and shooting a lot of photos, you might be looking for a much more curated feed. Selecting and Curating Our Photos

Now that we know how to create Photo Widgets, we will choose which photos we want displayed.

Stage 1: open yours Settings app and scroll down widget master and click on it.

Step 2: Click Photos tab.

Stage 3: click Selected Photos so a blue checkmark appears next to it.

Step 4: click Edit Selected Photos at the bottom of this page. This is where we will choose which photos appear in Widgetsmith. Select all the photos you want to view. You can browse your Camera Roll or find your photos using the Albums tab.

click Completed after selecting all your photos.

Adding Your New Widget to Your Home Screen

Far too good! In Widgetsmith we created our widget, edited our slideshow and now we need to show it.

Stage 1: On your home screen, find which page you want to put this widget on. From there, use 3D Touch by pressing lightly on your screen until your apps start to wiggle.

Click the plus (+) sign in the upper right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Type the following in the search bar Vehicle master.

Stage 3: Scroll to find the widget size you selected earlier, and then Add the widget. This guide chose to create a small widget. The process is the same for all sizes, photos used as reference will reflect this decision.

Step 4: Your widget will appear on your home screen and you can move it around like any app. Rearrange your apps and newly found widget to your liking.

My Widget is Empty!

If you set your widget on your home screen and notice that the images you selected are not showing and have something similar to the image below, there is a fix for you.

Stage 1: Tap on your blank Widget. This will open Widgetsmith.

Step 2: Go to your blank Widget and select it.

Stage 3: Click Default Widget text and tap on Selected Album tab.

Look at the album you selected. Widgetsmith filters the photos you selected earlier. Ask yourself if any of the photos fit into this category. For example, we have selfies selected in this guide, but all photos selected via Settings were screenshots. So we would have to either take a selfie or change the album. Screenshots.

But what if you have all kinds of photos you want to show?

Then select the largest album latest information.

Can I Make Multiple Slideshows for Different Widgets

Yup. In the previous section, we changed the Album settings to be very broad. latest information album. You can select photos from each album category via Settings (Favorites, Selfies, Live Photos, etc.) and select each category using the Widgetsmith App.

For example, you can have one slide show showing the photos in your Favorites album and another with just your Live Photos. These will show all the different pictures unless there are conflicts between your albums.
