Downgrade to iOS 9.2 Is No Longer Possible

If you want to upgrade to iOS 9.2 on your iPhone or iPad, unfortunately you can’t do that anymore as Apple has closed the signing window for iOS 9.2.

When iOS 9.2.1 was released last month, users who updated to this new version could downgrade their device back to iOS 9.2 using iTunes. Technically Apple doesn’t officially allow you to downgrade your iPhone or iPad, but the company leaves a 1-2 week window to do so if needed.

Downgrading can be great if you’re having trouble with the latest update and want to revert to a version. Jailbreakers also took this opportunity to downgrade if the newer version is not jailbroken but is on the older version.

Even though it’s currently jailbroken iOS 9.2 or iOS 9.2.1, this will be a problem if it releases an iOS 9.2 jailbreak in the future but not iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak, that’s a handful of packages on iOS 9.2.1 may contain. important security fixes.

The important thing to note right now is that the signature status for iOS 9.2 is currently only applies to a few devicesAll other devices still show up as signed, including the iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPhone 4s.

We’re not sure if this is simply an issue with the website needing a refresh and not being fully updated yet, or if Apple has stopped signing iOS 9.2 for just a few devices.

In any case, Pangu recently stated that if you’re not jailbroken, it might actually be a good idea to update to iOS 9.2.1 and stay at that version, as it comes with important security fixes. Pangu still hasn’t mentioned anything about a jailbreak, but his recommendations make us wonder if we might see an iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak anytime soon.

However, if you are currently using a new version of iOS that cannot be jailbroken, it may not hurt to just update to iOS 9.2.1 for improved security and stay there.

There is still no word on when a new jailbreak will be released. Rumors of an iOS 9.2 jailbreak have been circulating for the past few weeks, but we’ve yet to see anything coming from that. TaiG or Pangu may be waiting for the official release of iOS 9.3 before releasing a new jailbreak, but we’re not sure what’s up their sleeves.
