Apple has released a new watchOS 6.0.1 update for the Apple Watch, which offers bug fixes and security patches to Apple watch owners.
watchOS 6.0.1 is the first update to watchOS 6 and it’s pretty small. It’s not on the same level as the resulting iOS 13.1, but actually more compatible with iOS 13.1.1 and iOS 13.2.
If your Apple Watch is already on watchOS 6, this is a minor upgrade that doesn’t involve many changes. Your list of features, fixes, and patches will be longer if you get stuck in watchOS 5 to see if Apple has fixed many of the watchOS 6 issues. It’s a relatively small download and installs faster than the base watchOS 6 update. The watchOS 6.0.1 update is 76.4 MB on the GPS-enabled Apple Watch 5 and 91.5 MB on the GPS+ LTE model.
Now that you know the basics of watchOS 6.0.1 and its place in the lineup, here’s what you need to know about this currently rolling out update. You may see an alert on your wrist about this update with a warning to install it tonight, but you should read it before you make the jump.
watchOS 6.0.1 Reviews
Here’s what you need to know about the watchOS 6.0.1 update.
I’ve been using the watchOS 6.0.1 update for a short time on my Apple Watch 5 and this is what I discovered. I use the GPS only model and a friend shares his views on using the GPS+ LTE version of the Series 5. A common complaint about the Series 5 with Always-On Display and Noise tracking was poor battery life, but it’s still too early to tell if this update fixes that issue.

Speed and Battery Life
It’s too early to make any bold statements about battery life, but an hour later, battery life is stable.
watchOS 6.0.1 Issues
There have been no widespread reports of any watchOS 6.0.1 issues so far, but you can expect some issues from the initial release to persist.
Our and many other installations were quick to install compared to watchOS 6, which is a great sign. As you can read in our review above, the connection is working fine and the apps are working fine so far. The only installation issue we saw was that some users were not aware that you had to plug the watch into the charger to start the installation.
We are taking care of any connection or app issues in this new version of watchOS 6. Apple says this update includes performance fixes that could fix the bad Apple Watch battery life some users are experiencing.
watchOS 6.0.1 Update: What’s New

What’s new in watchOS 6.0.1?
You don’t have any new features as you can see in watchOS 6, but this update fixes three specific issues and security patches. This is a focused set of fixes and won’t be the last you see this year.
Here’s what’s new in watchOS 6.0.1;
If you are using these features, you should install the update now. There may also be some additional security updates, but Apple has yet to release them.
watchOS 6.0.1 Compatibility
watchOS 6.0.1 update is compatible with all devices currently running watchOS 6.
The watchOS 6.0.1 update is already available on all Apple Watch devices running watchOS 6. This update does not extend support to Series 1 and Series 2 models. Apple is probably tying this to the next major watchOS 6 update.
To be able to install the watchOS 6.0.1 update, you need to install iOS 13.1.2 on your iPhone.
what’s next
Apple has yet to release watchOS 6.1 to the public, but the company is clearly working on new watchOS updates. We expect this bug fix to lead us to a larger watchOS 6.1 update.
Expect to see Apple deliver it in October to bring the Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2 to watchOS 6 and improve features. We expect to see a new iOS 13.2 update around the same timeframe and around the macOS Catalina release date.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the watchOS 6.1 beta coming for developers in the near future.
