5 Best CamScanner Alternatives for iPhone

Document scanner apps have become an integral part of my routine. I use it frequently to send notices, documents and invoices to our business partners. So far, CamScanner has been my recommendation to the majority looking for a capable document scanner app. The software has been mired in privacy concerns lately and that’s why we decided to make an alternative list for it.

We have already covered CamScanner alternatives for Android and in this article we will talk about the best CamScanner competitors for iPhone. Most major companies such as Microsoft, Zoho, and Adobe have included the document scanner with their productivity suites. Then we have special applications like ScanPro that we look forward to. Lets start.

1. Microsoft Office Lens

Microsoft offers a capable document scanner called Office Lens. Unlike Microsoft 365 suites, Office Lens is completely free and available on iOS and Android.

You can use the built-in camera to scan documents or go to the phone gallery to scan them. Open the Office Lens app and there are four modes to choose from: Whiteboard, Document, Business Card, and Photo.

Put the document in front of the camera and the app will automatically adjust the corners for you. Hit the scan button and let Office Lens do the magic for you. You can also manually adjust the corners for precise results.

Microsoft has also integrated some editing options. You can continue to add new scans to the scanner document, use filters, rotate and even add text to it. As for exporting, the service comes tightly integrated with other Microsoft apps like OneNote, Word, OneDrive, PowerPoint, and the default Photos app on iPhone.

You can also use Office Lens functionality in apps like OneDrive and Microsoft Office app for iPhone and Android.

2. Adobe Scan

Adobe is one step ahead of Office Lens with its Adobe Scan application. Let me explain. When you open Adobe Scan, the built-in scanner automatically adjusts the document corners for you. Users don’t even have to press the scan button, as the software automatically retrieves it for you.

You can also manually adjust the vertices before the result. The editing options are one of the best I’ve seen. You can add new pages, change page order in PDF, crop for better precision, rotate PDF pages, add filters and more.

I like how Adobe has integrated the search functionality into the app. It can be useful when dealing with dozens of PDF pages. You can also use the Siri integration. For example, you can ask Siri to open the latest Invoice and it will open the specific document for you.

Adobe Scan is completely free to use.

3. Zoho Scan

Zoho Scan is a simple yet effective CamScanner alternative for iPhone. It covers all the basics along with a few other functions for editing.

Zoho automatically adjusts the corner and captures the final scan for you. In my testing, I often found inconsistent corner adjustment compared to CamScanner, Office Lens, and Adobe Scan. You can always use the post-capture crop tool to adjust the corners.

Zoho scan markup

As for editing, Markup tools can be used to add doodles, loads of filters, text recognition, add tags and more. My favorite function is the e-signature option. You can add your signature to a document using the Zoho Scan app. Signing a Confidentiality Agreement on the go, renting documents, etc. It can be useful whenever you want.

Zoho Scan is free to use, but advanced features like iCloud backup, e-signature, translation and export come with a Premium price tag.

4. ScanPro

ScanPro takes the entire document scanning experience to the next level. If your daily routine requires scanning dozens of documents, go ahead and download the ScanPro app on iPhone.

ScanPro offers excellent boundary detection. Even once I had to manually adjust the document corners. The filter option is also feature rich. You can manually adjust the brightness, colors and contrast from the filter menu.

Other functions include HD quality scans, direct sharing, document encryption, cloud sync, auto upload, OCR (Optical Character Recognition) feature and more.

ScanPro is free to download. Premium functions come with a price tag.

5. Apple Files

I’m sure many won’t even know about Apple Files’ built-in document scanner. Yes, you can scan documents using the scanner function of the Files app.

Open the Apple Files app and tap the three-dot menu above and select the Scan Documents option. The whole process is straight forward. Scan the document, adjust the corners and you’re ready.

As for editing, you can apply multiple filters, crop the document and add new pages. Try it and if you’re happy with the results, you can ignore other third-party document scanner apps.

Scan Documents on the Go

Choose any of the above options and I’m sure you won’t miss CamScanner on your iPhone. If you live in the Microsoft, Adobe or Zoho ecosystem, continue with their offerings. ScanPro is for those who want maximum functionality from a document scanner application. But it has a price.
