Double-tap the screen to wake your smartphone, change the location of the clock or battery icon, simulate a geolocation, or trick an app on private data stored on your smartphone or tablet. These are some of the rich and varied features that Xposed can offer without having to completely change the system, for example by installing a Custom Rom.
What is Xposed framework and modules?
Created by developer rovo89 from the XDA forum, Xposed Framework is a real Swiss army knife for your Android device. To make it simple and short, Xposed is a “Framework”, which can be translated into French as “software structure”, which houses various modules aimed at adding additional functionality to your smartphone.
The Xposed Installer app is the basis for Xposed modules created by themselves and numerous developers, available as APK files for download.
You can install, uninstall, enable or disable your modules (Modules tab), as well as update or remove the Framework (Framework tab). A simple reboot between the different modifications is all it takes for them to be considered.
The Downloads section is also included, giving you access to a repository of different (but not all) modules. Many can be downloaded directly from the Google Play Store, but also on the official website and on our forum. Xposed can run without root, but most modules require it. That’s why we recommend rooting your Android device to take full advantage of all its benefits.
How to Install Xposed Framework
Warning : It is highly recommended to make a full backup of your system and data. In fact, even if the actions described below don’t pose a huge risk to your Android device, it’s safer to have a copy just in case. A Nandroid Backup is probably the best solution.
Prerequisites
- You have allowed unknown sources to be installed: Go to Settings > Personal > Security on your smartphone and check the “Unknown sources” box.
- You installed a custom recovery
- You have rooted your Android device
We recommend that you take a look at our forum to find a custom recovery compatible with your device and root it. There is a high probability that you will find tutorials suitable for your smartphone model.
Below Android 4.0.3 to 4.4.4
The installation method is simpler than later versions as it consists of the following. install this APK file then open the Xposed Installer app. All you have to do is install the modules of your choice and start enjoying the Xposed experience. Always check compatibility with your Android version before installing modules.
Under Android 5.0 and 6.0
First of all, you should find out which processor architecture is available on your Android device (arm, arm64 or x86) by installing the Hardware Info application on the Play Store. The information that interests us should be in the “Processor” section.
Then flash the Xposed Framework .zip file corresponding to your smartphone’s processor architecture and Android version with a custom recovery. You can download it below:

xprivacy
For those still concerned about keeping data that may be private, XPrivacy is an Xposed module that prevents apps from accessing your confidential data.
XPrivacy can restrict the categories of data your applications can access. The principle is this: Xprivacy sends them false information such as your geographic location and can also make them believe that your contact list is empty. Many other options are also available through this module, so we let you explore them for yourself.
Android N-ify
This is a module for those of you who have an Android device running Android Lollipop and Marshmallow that won’t receive or can’t wait to get the Android update. Android N-ify gives you the possibility to find few special features of Android 7.0 Nougat. Among them we find the new notification system and quick settings, as well as the very practical Quick Switch, which allows you to go directly to the application you opened earlier by double-clicking the applications button.
Boot Manager
Some of your Android apps run in the background when your smartphone starts, giving themselves too much freedom without your knowledge. Like Windows Task Manager offers, BootManager is a module that allows you to choose which ones can be started or not when your Android device starts. By disabling them, you not only save time, but also make your smartphone more responsive and therefore faster in performing its tasks.
Great Pop-up Video
Awesome Popup Video is a really cool module that lets you watch a video in a small popup in any currently open app. The app has its own recommended video gallery, but it also works with other video players, including the official YouTube app. Just open your video, then hit the “Share” button and select Awesome Popup Video from the provided list. That’s it, you can continue watching your video while looking at your SMS!
WhatsApp Extensions
WhatsApp Extensions is an Xposed module that adds additional functionality to the standard WhatsApp application. For example, you can hide delivery reports as well as acknowledgments, zoom in on profile photos and even add a personalized wallpaper to each contact. Also note that you don’t have to reinstall the module after every new update of your WhatsApps app for the features to remain active.
YouTube Background Play
As the name suggests, this module allows you to play your Youtube videos in the background on your Android smartphone or tablet. Suitable for those who do not have a lot of space on their device to store their favorite songs. Another advantage, once the module is installed and activated, is that you gain autonomy, as the screen is functional even when it is in standby.

Amplify – Battery Extender
Undoubtedly one of the most downloaded and used, and for good reason, Amplify is a battery saver that controls and regulates how often your device’s processes go into and out of sleep mode. Thus, minutes of autonomy is gained. Note that the basic version does not allow you to configure all alarms and wake locks, so to enjoy all its features, Amplify offers a Pro version available for In-App purchase directly.

Of course there are others, and this is a non-exhaustive list. For information, Xposed is not yet available for Android Nougat, its developer rovo89 is working hard on it. Feel free to let us know which modules you are using or if you want to try Xposed of the modules we offer.
