On the Internet and in our mobile applications, we tend to publish a lot of our private information, and we rely on developers for the security of our information. However, there is one flaw that cannot be fixed by them: the weakness of their users’ passwords.
It all starts here, but if we rely on top of the worst passwords used on the internet, few seem inclined to complicate their identifiers. The developers then found a way to circumvent this weakness: add an additional identification step.
WhatsApp adds two-step verification
WhatsApp is one of the latest to add this feature to the public version of its app after a short beta period. The working principle of this new feature in the latest version of WhatsApp, which is now available, is very simple: You can now configure a 6-digit PIN code in addition to your regular password.
When you log into your account on a new device, you will be asked for this PIN. In fact, if a malicious person tries to connect to your account after learning your password (this happens), they will find it blocked by that PIN.
Despite recent logical improvements such as the addition of video calls for everyone, it’s good to see that the developer hasn’t forgotten to strengthen its security in a context where the fear of seeing their private data on the internet is over and increasingly emerging. in the collective unconscious.
How to Enable WhatsApp Two-Step Verification
Please ensure that your email address is correctly configured in your account and is still active before enabling the feature. The reason is this: If you made a mistake, you will never be able to recover your account again after setting up two-step verification.
The aim is not to prevent yourself from using WhatsApp, but to prevent others from seeing your private data, it’s better to check. Everything is going well ? Excellent ! All that’s left is:
- open WhatsApp
- Tap the three dots in the top right
- go to settings
- Select My Account
- Click on “Two-Step Verification”
- Enable verification
Click “Enable” and the app will ask you to select the famous 6-digit PIN code. Once this is done all is well: you are now much more protected!
Note that this PIN will be requested periodically during a new connection to a device and also when you use the app to verify your identity. This regular check can’t be disabled without removing all the functionality, but there’s little to pay for added security.
