Using the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as a Flashlight

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has tons of impressive features with its huge screen and S-Pen stylus, but something else worth mentioning is its camera, flash and use as a dedicated flashlight when needed.

Last week we explained how owners can use the Note 3 camera flash for calls and texts and alerts and notifications, but that’s not all we can do with the bright LED flash on our devices. It doubles as a flashlight. Many smartphone owners use this feature, it’s extremely simple to set up and Samsung even has a dedicated Widget for just that. With just a few taps, you can have a one-click instant flashlight directly on your phone, read on to see how.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has an extremely powerful LED flash that can easily double as a bright flashlight. It is useful for finding your keys under the sofa or in a dark room or even when camping and you need a light. Most new Samsung Galaxy devices have an easy toggle to activate the camera in seconds instead of launching and opening it.

Also, since the screen consumes a lot of battery power, it is much better to use the flash instead of increasing the screen brightness and using it. Using the efficient camera LED works wonders and here’s how to enable it.

Instructions

To use the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 camera as a flashlight, owners need to add a widget to their home screen, it’s really easy. Widgets act as shortcuts or one-click solutions to instantly launch apps or services on our Android devices from the home screen. Instead of finding the app in a list or going through the settings.

Go to the app tray by tapping the square button in the lower right corner of the screen that launches the app tray. Select the tab labeled “widget” in the top left instead of apps and turn it until you find the widget shown in the images below.

Users are looking for “Assistant Light widget” made by Samsung, but it may look slightly different from the icon shown above. There are also hundreds of other options on the Google Play Store, which we’ll talk about in a moment.

Find Assistive Light Widget from the selection and long press it and swipe to your desired home screen. This will add a large one-click button that instantly turns on the camera flash and provides the perfect flashlight no matter the scenario.

Then, as we mentioned above, there are tons of additional options in the Google Play Store that offer different functions, fast turn-off timers and ensure you don’t run out of battery, and SOS flashes for emergencies. Our favorite is the light-free Tiny Flashlight + LED. Google Play store. Once you add this widget (same instructions as above), you’ll have tons of options to choose from apart from a camera, not to mention it’s smaller and prettier than the large square icon Samsung used above.

another good option Flashlight HD LED From the Google Play Store and various others. The same quick and simple steps apply to almost any widget in the Play Store, so find a flashlight that you think works best and give it a try.

The next time you need a flashlight or can’t see the slider to unlock your front door, launch any of the aforementioned apps with a one-click widget to instantly use the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 camera as a flashlight. This can reduce battery life if overused, so be careful.
