WhatsApp is the world’s most popular instant messaging service that people all over the world use to stay in touch with family, friends and relatives. There are many features that this messaging platform has to offer, such as the ability to send images, videos, GIFs, audio files, contacts and even voice notes. However, there is one area where WhatsApp has been criticized for years and that is image compression. That’s right, WhatsApp is known to always compress image files sent via the instant messaging platform, thereby significantly reducing the image quality. While we are aware that it is made to speed up file transfer, not everyone prefers speed to quality. So, are you interested in sending the full image file without sacrificing any compression and image quality? Well, without further ado, let’s see How to send picture without compression on WhatsApp:
Send Full Resolution Photos on WhatsApp on Android and iPhone
note: I tried this method on Xiaomi Mi Mix and iPhone 7 Plus. While we have only shown the steps for an Android device, the procedure is pretty much the same for an iPhone and it works flawlessly on both these devices.
Usually when we are in the middle of a WhatsApp chat and want to send a picture, we just try to attach the photo. However, this is not quite the case here. To do this in seconds, simply follow these steps:
- First, open WhatsApp from your phone and tap on it. “Paperclip” Icon to insert the picture you want to send. We will not use the gallery to add the photo. Instead, we will attach it as a document. So, just tap on “Document” and then select the option: “Browse other docs…”.
- Now, since the pictures you send are usually in the Gallery, you need to browse to the folder with your photos and click select specific photo. Tap after you find it. “OK”.
- You will now be asked to send the picture to a specific contact. After sending, you can check if the image is compressed by checking the detailed information of the file as shown in the image below.
Well, that’s the whole process. Instead of sending it as a photo, we send the image file as a document to prevent WhatsApp from compressing it. If you send the image as a document, you will notice that when you try to send a photo via WhatsApp you will not receive the image preview as you normally would.
