Ok Google Not Working? Here’s How To Fix It

Google Assistant is very useful. I personally use it daily to check weather reports, get my daily briefing and follow my favorite sports team. While I haven’t had any issues using Google Assistant in the past, I’ve seen many people complain about it not working properly. Many people complain that Assistant is not responding to them when using the “Ok Google” command. In this article, we will take a look at a few solutions that can fix this problem. So, if Ok Google isn’t working for you either, here’s how to fix the problem:

Ok Google Not Working? Here’s How To Fix It

There are many reasons why “Ok Google” might not work on your Android device. So we will take a look at several solutions for the same problem. Try them all on your device to see which one fixes your Ok Google not working issue:

1. Retrain the Voice Model

One of the biggest culprits of Ok Google not working is that users don’t take the time to set up the voice command properly. If you haven’t properly trained your Ok Google voice command, Google Assistant may not recognize your voice. That’s why you should take some time to retrain your voice model.

To retrain your voice model, first, Open Google Assistant, then tap the icon in the upper right corner (marked in the picture above). Now tap on the three-dot menu and then on Settings. Here, under the Assistant tab, scroll down to find the “Assistant devices” menu and tap your device.

1. Retrain the Voice Model 2

Now all you have to do is Tap on “Sound Model” -> “Retrain sound model” and follow the steps to retrain your voice model to Google Assistant.

Another thing you can do is clear the cache of the Google app so it can start fresh. To do this, open the Settings app on your phone and then go to Apps -> Google.

2. Clear cache for google app 1

Now, Tap on “Storage” and clear cache by tapping on “Clear Cache”. One thing to note here is that the Settings app on your phone might look different than mine because you’re not using a stock Android device. Don’t worry, the steps are the same and it works on any phone.

3. Reinstall the Google App

If clearing the cache doesn’t help, you may need to uninstall the app and then reinstall it on your device. The removal process is pretty simple and I hope you know how to do it on your own Android device. If not, follow the steps below as they are universal and will work on any Android device.

3. Reinstall the Google App

First open Play Store and then search for Google. Tap the result marked in the image above and then tap the “Remove” button. Now restart your Android device and then repeat the same process. The only difference here is that you tap the “Install” button to install the app on your device.

4. Check Language Settings

Sometimes the “Ok Google” command does not work on your device because you have selected the wrong language settings. To make sure that’s not your case, Launch the Google app and then go to More -> Settings -> Audio -> Languagesand make sure the correct language is selected for your region.

4. Check Language Settings

5. Check the Microphone

Ok Google is connected to your phone’s microphone so it’s always good to see if it’s in good standing. Sometimes, the reason why Ok Google is not working on your phone is a faulty microphone.. To control the microphone, open any recording application on your phone and record your voice. If it doesn’t sound like it should, the problem is with your microphone and you should have it repaired.
