Kodi: How to use Chromecast from Android or PC?

We have already created a file to use Kodi on Android. And we didn’t talk important point, Chromecast, because there is no option. YouTube or Plex, to name just two examples, stream content directly, as do all Chromecast compatible apps. Although Kodi does not offer this directly, there are effective ways to achieve this and we will tell you how to achieve it.

Kodi: Stream content from an Android smartphone via Chromecast

There are two methods, the first is strongly not recommended for long-term use as your smartphone’s autonomy will be affected. From the Google Home app that manages the Chromecast, among other things:

  • Tap the icon in the upper left corner of your screen
  • Go to “Broadcast screen or audio”
  • Tap “Broadcast screen or audio”
  • A list of nearby devices will be displayed, then tap the one you want to use.

This method is actually universal, as it consists of streaming what is displayed on your screen, not just Kodi. We will now look at another approach described by Android Authority It is more complex to implement, but more useful for long-term use of Kodi and Chromecast. Follow these simple steps to get started:

Start by launching ES Elephant Explorer on your smartphone, select “Show hidden files” from the left menu. Then copy and paste the previously downloaded PlayerFactoryCore.xml file into the following directory: Android > Data > xbmc.kodi > files > .kodi > userdata. Then open Kodi and select the content you want to cast to Chromecast, LocalCast will ask you which devices to cast to. The content will then automatically play on your screen.

Kodi: Casting content from a PC via Chromecast

Streaming content from a PC is easier than it looks, thanks to Chrome. The browser makes it easy to stream content regardless of the application. Here is the step-by-step procedure:

  • open Chrome
  • Click on the 3 small dots in the upper right corner of the browser
  • Click on “Wheel” and then select the device (remember to select the desktop, not the tab)
  • Launch Kodi and stream the content you want

This last method works for everything, not just Kodi. Are you using Kodi? What do you think of the methods described in this file? Share your views in the comments with the site community.
