How to Use Siri with Google Maps without iOS 6 Jailbreak

In two words, iOS 6 users can use Siri to get directions in Google Maps instead of Apple Maps without iOS 6 jailbreak or hacking.

Google Maps for iPhone is now available to iOS 6 users who want to replace Apple Maps. Apple doesn’t allow users to change the default Maps app in iOS 6, but there is a way to get around this limitation and use Siri to get directions in Google Maps.

The solution is thanks to Google Maps’ public transport support, which allows Apple Maps to connect to the app. as Tom Rich Jailbreak Nation shows in a YouTube video that the process is relatively simple.

To use Siri to get directions via Google Maps, users simply ask Siri for directions and add “via transit” or “by transit” to the end of the sentence. For example, open Siri and say “Public transit directions to the nearest Apple store.”

The voice command will open the transit menu in Apple Maps and give users the option to open directions in Google Maps. Once in Google Maps, it’s another tap to change directions by car or walking. The process requires several times more taps than Apple Maps, but directions are generally more accurate in Google Maps. In areas without public transport, the app uses directions by default.

iPhone users can also use Siri to open Google Maps directly and then use dictation to enter their desired locations for directions. This method still requires a number of additional touches. At least in iOS 6, there is no way to open Google Maps with directions by default.

The Google Maps workaround isn’t ideal, but it’s a very simple solution that doesn’t require an iOS 6 jailbreak. Jailbroken iPhones have an option to choose default apps for some functions. There is no disconnected jailbreak for iPhone 5 and iOS 6. With Siri in iOS 6, users can easily launch apps and circumvent several limitations in iOS 6.
