How to use Google Handwriting Input Keyboard?

Google recently released a new Android keyboard called Google Handwriting Input keyboard, which allows Android smartphone and tablet users to type with their fingers or stylus instead of typing on the keyboard. It works well, recognizing the user’s handwritten input quickly and accurately most of the time.

The setup wizard helps the user to start using the Google Handwriting Input keyboard on Android.

The setup wizard gives users a chance to test the keyboard in a text input box that appears after performing the above steps. Give it a try to see how well it recognizes even the most complex handwriting. I was amazed at how accurately it recognized my horrible handwriting and entered the correct text in the box.

The wizard shows two more boxes at the bottom of the screen. The first is for configuring languages, and the second allows users to decide to help improve the keyboard by allowing Google to collect data. To do this, tap one of the two boxes.

The phone’s keyboard input will now use the Google Handwriting Input keyboard by default. However, it’s a good idea to install Google Keyboard as well. How to Use the Google Handwriting Input Keyboard

What do the icons in the new Google Handwriting Input Keyboard do, and how do you quickly switch between this keyboard and Google Keyboard so that you can type using a regular keyboard? First, let’s take a look at the UI of the handwriting keyboard.

Here is the Google Handwriting Input keyboard text input box. See what the various icons mean below.

The middle input field accepts the user’s handwriting. Use your finger or pen to write words instead of typing. Notice how it suggests words above the input field. Tap or hold a suggested word to enter it and the keyboard will enter it automatically. The middle word is the word the keyboard thinks you want to enter. Tap the left or right box to switch to one of these words instead.

Also, the top line of the input field has a punctuation mark with a period, a comma, and a question mark.

At the bottom are a series of icons that represent buttons. Here’s what each of them does, starting from the left and moving to the right of the screen.
