PlayStation 5 brings a brand new controller called DualSense. It’s an upgrade over the last generation DualShock 4 controller that came with the PS4 and PS4 Pro, and it brings a few changes. One of the things you will notice is that the ‘Share’ button is now called ‘Create’. This button allows you to take screenshots, record clips and even publish content. If you’re wondering how to get started creating game media, here’s how to use the ‘Create’ button on your PS5 DualSense controller.
How to Use Compose Button on DualSense Controller
There are a few things you can do with the ‘Create’ button on your PS5 controller. If you’re not a streamer, if you’ve done something great with a game and you want to show it to people, you will often find yourself using this button to take a screenshot or record a video clip.
Whatever your use case, recognizing the ‘Create’ button is an important part of getting used to the new DualSense controller.
In this article, I will tell you how you can use the ‘Create’ button, how to remap and more. As always, you can use the table of contents below to jump to any section in this article.
Use Create Button to Take Screenshots and Record Clips
As I said above, you usually use the ‘Create’ button to take a screenshot or save a clip. Here’s how you can do it.
take screenshot
To take a screenshot with your DualSense controller, simply press and hold the ‘Create’ button on your controller. Soon you will see a screenshot icon with a check mark in the upper right corner of your screen.
Alternatively, you can hit the ‘Create’ button and then select ‘Take Screenshot’ to click a screenshot.
Save Clips
Simply double-press the ‘Create’ button on your DualSense controller to save a clip of the last game you played.
Alternatively, you can hit the ‘Create’ button and then select ‘Save Last Gameplay’. By the way, it gives you two options. You can choose to record a short clip ranging from 15 seconds to 30 minutes; or you can record a full video (up to 60 minutes).
Change Default Clip Recording Time
If you’re like me, you probably record video clips by double-pressing the ‘Create’ button on your DualSense controller. In this case, you may want to adjust the recording time to make sure that the game you want to save is actually saved. Here’s how to do it.
- Go to Settings -> Captures and Releases.
- Here, go to ‘Creation Button Shortcuts’ in the ‘Captures’ category.
- Select ‘Last Played Video Clip Length’ and change it to your desired value. You can choose between 15 seconds and 1 hour.
Change Screenshot Format
By default, PlayStation 5 captures screenshots in JPEG format. But if you want, you can change the screenshot format on PS5 quite easily. Follow the steps below:
- Go to Settings -> Captures and Releases.
- Here, select ‘Screenshot Format’ and choose the format you want. You can choose between JPG and PNG.
Use the Create Button to Publish Games
With PS5, you can stream your games for everyone to watch. That’s great if you’re considering getting started with some PS5 streaming. Note that PS5 natively supports streaming to Twitch and YouTube.
Simply press the ‘Create’ button to bring up the compose menu. Click the broadcast icon (which looks like a broadcast tower towards the right end of the menu).
You can then choose between Twitch and YouTube to stream your PS5 games. The first time you do this, you will need to log in with your Twitch or YouTube account to start streaming on these platforms.
Customize Button Key Mapping Generating
For the most part, the default button mapping of the ‘Create’ button works just fine for me. However, if you don’t feel like it and prefer to change the way the ‘Create’ button works on DualSense controllers, you can do that too.
- Go to Settings -> Captures and Releases.
- Here, select ‘Create Button Shortcuts’.
- Select ‘Button mapping’ and choose from ‘Standard’, ‘Easy Screenshots’ or ‘Easy Video Clips’ according to your preferences.
Use the Create Button to Record Video Clips and Stream PS5 Games
It was all about using the Create button on the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller. Personally, while I don’t stream games to audiences, it’s good to know that the feature is built into the PS5. However, especially when I’m doing something great in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, even from afar, I get lots of screenshots and video clips from my games to share with my friends.
As you can see from this article, using the ‘Create’ button on the PS5 DualSense controller is really easy. However, if you run into any problems, let us know in the comments.
