If you’re planning to buy an Apple Watch, or if you already have one, here’s how to unjailbreak your iPhone to use Apple’s new wearable.
The Apple Watch is officially available to consumers, and while you can’t quite buy it in Apple Stores yet, many of those who pre-order the new smartwatch are starting to find them on their doorstep.
However, Apple Watch users must have at least iOS 8.2 installed in order to use Apple Watch on their device, but the unfortunate news is that since iOS you cannot currently jailbreak and use Apple Watch at the same time. 8.2 and iOS 8.3 are not jailbroken yet.
Therefore, if you want to use the Apple Watch, you need to unjailbreak your iPhone. That is, if you are currently in jail.
Here’s how to unjailbreak your iPhone so you can update to the latest version of iOS 8 and start using the Apple Watch.
How to Unjailbreak Your iPhone?
The latest iOS version that can be jailbroken is iOS 8.1.2, but unfortunately the Apple Watch is not compatible with this version. Instead, users will need to upgrade to iOS 8.3 to take advantage of the Apple Watch.
The bad news is that you will lose all your jailbreak capabilities and all the tweaks that come with it (and there are some pretty cool jailbreak tweaks to be had). However, the good news is that unjailbreaking your iPhone is not difficult at all.
All it takes is a little time and patience, here’s how to jailbreak your iPhone.
First, plug your iPhone into your computer and open iTunes. Then click the iPhone icon towards the upper left corner of the window.
From there, click to fully back up your iPhone before jailbreaking it. You back up your apps and settings so you can get them back after jailbreak because this will completely restore your iPhone.
You may get a pop-up asking if you want to back up any app on your iPhone that is not in your iTunes library. You can choose to back up these apps or not.
Click on it after the backup process is complete. To do this, you need to disable Find My iPhone, so just open the app on your iPhone and tap on it. Turn it off from there and enter your Apple ID password to confirm.
After clicking Restore iPhone, you will go through the process of updating your iPhone to the latest version of iOS. Downloading and installing the update will take some time, so you can sit back and wait for the update to download.
After the update is complete, you will be asked whether you want to set up your iPhone as a new iPhone or restore from a backup. You’ll want to restore from backup because you backed up all your stuff before you started.
After your iPhone is successfully restored from backup, you will be left with the same iPhone you started with, but no jailbreak this time. Cydia will be deleted from your home screen and all your jailbreak settings will be gone too.
However, you will have a new app to play. iOS 8.3 comes with the Apple Watch app that lets you pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone. This app is not available on older versions of iOS, including iOS 8.1.2, the latest jailbreakable version.
Unfortunately, there is no news about an Apple Watch jailbreak, but that probably won’t come out until iOS 8.3 is jailbroken. However, it seems that jailbreak developers can wait for iOS 8.4 to be released before releasing a new jailbreak. At this point, we may hear more talk about the possibility of jailbreaking the Apple Watch.
But at this point, the only way to use Apple Watch with your iPhone is without jailbreak.
