The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have two illuminated buttons on either side of the dedicated home button, which glow when users interact with the device. This is so you know where they are and can easily see the back and recent apps buttons. These only stay lit for 1.5 seconds on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, and some owners may want to set this up and have it burn longer.
The capacitive touch buttons don’t stay on long enough for most users, and worse yet, Samsung is letting carriers in the United States remove the option to set it. With the Galaxy S5, you can change this setting from 1.5 to three seconds, six seconds, off or always on when the screen is on. But all carriers except AT&T have completely removed this setting on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, but we have a way around it.
For some these lights can be annoying in a dark environment and will want to turn them off completely and for others 1.5 seconds just isn’t long enough. AT&T keeps the lights on for six seconds, which is perfect for most, but if you want to set them up on AT&T and other carriers, read on for quick instructions.
These lights turn on every time you touch the screen or use the Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge, but quickly go out and you can no longer see where the buttons are. Those at AT&T are probably happy with the six-second light duration, but may want to turn them off or lower them to a shorter duration.
Then, for Samsung Galaxy S6 owners who bought the smartphone from Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint or US Cellular, you will have to use an app to change it, because for some unknown reason all other carriers have removed the option in the settings. It’s frustrating that such a simple setting has been removed from almost all versions of this phone, but fortunately for owners, there is a way around this bad decision.
Instructions
Those who own an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge simply go to Settings > Display > Touch key light duration > and change it to 1.5 seconds, six seconds, always off or always on. It’s that simple. A few taps in settings and you’re done. See the screenshot below.
As you can see, in the settings on the AT&T Galaxy S6 this is clearly a very straightforward and easy to understand option. I set mine to six seconds as I found this to be a great option, but it’s okay if three seconds is a choice.
But I can’t complain because if you own a Galaxy S6 from any carrier other than AT&T, you don’t have this option and you have to download a third-party app from the Google Play Store.
The link above is for a simple little app that will allow all Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge owners to easily replace the capacitive touch lights on their phones. You can turn them off completely, set them to always be on, or change the light duration.
As you can see above, there are more than enough options for owners with this app. The slider changes how long the button lights stay on, and that’s all there is to the app. Extremely simple and easy. The developer states that this was made specifically for the Galaxy S6, but says it should work with all Galaxy devices, but it hasn’t been tested.
Download the app and change the settings as you see fit; you are ready. The latest update added the option to go back to stock 1.5 seconds if you want, so try it today. If you have any other Galaxy S6 questions, leave a comment below or read our 65 Galaxy S6 Tips and Tricks.
