When Apple first announced iOS 12 at WWDC in June this year, it spent quite a bit of time talking about Screen Time, Apple’s ability to promote healthy use of smartphones and prevent people from becoming addicted to them. One of the many ways Screen Time helps combat smartphone addiction is with App Limits. However, Screen Time has one big problem – it doesn’t let you add individual apps to limit usage; At least it’s not easy. Today we will solve exactly that.
What are the Application Limits?
First, what has App Limits on iOS? Simply put, App Limits allow you to set a time limit for apps that iOS later applies. So, for example, on Instagram you can set a time limit of 1 hour, and then after 1 hour of Instagram per day, iOS will not allow you to use the application until midnight (when the App Limits timer resets). ).
So What’s the Problem, Really?
Now that iOS 12 is officially available, I’m sure many of you have updated your iPhones to the latest version of iOS and you may have noticed that when you try to add App Limits in Screen Time, it doesn’t allow it. you add individual apps and add app categories instead. So you may want to limit your Instagram usage, but Screen Time will set App Limits on all Social Apps, this is not what we want.
There Is An Easy Solution!
However, there is an easy workaround here. I tried this method on our iPhone X but it’s not working on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and even iPhone 8, iPhone 7 etc. It should work the same for older iPhone as well. For example, I will add an App Limit. Instagram; but you can do this in any app you want. Follow the steps below:
- On your iPhone, go to: SettingsTap on ‘ andScreen TIME.’
- Here, tap on ‘iPhone‘ and you will see a detailed breakdown of your iPhone usage. simply tap the app you want to set a limit on.

- Tap on ‘Add Boundary‘set your desired limit and then tap ‘.Add.’

That’s it, the app you choose (In my case Instagram) will now have the limit and will not work when the limit is reached.
