The PS5 brings an all-new DualSense controller, which is a huge improvement over its predecessor, the DualShock 4. Among its various impressive upgrades, including the new ‘Compose’ button, the controller brings adaptive triggers as well as highly improved haptic feedback. These features make games more immersive. However, if you don’t like it, you can customize these haptics or even turn them off. If so, here’s how to set or disable PS5 DualSense controller haptic.
Set or Disable PS5 DualSense Controller Haptics
Personally, I really enjoy the new haptics in DualSense. The controller offers an immersive experience in games such as Call of Duty and Spider-Man. However, some people prefer not to deal with trigger tension from adaptive triggers. Or maybe you just don’t want haptics to be that imposing.
Whatever the case, Sony has built-in settings that allow you to adjust touch and adaptive triggering to suit your preferences. In this article, we will discuss how to set up DualSense haptics. We will also discuss how to disable haptics on DualSense controllers.
Depending on what you want to do, you can skip to the relevant section using the table of contents below.
How to Set Haptic Feedback on DualSense Controllers
If you want to adjust the haptic feedback on the new controller to make it a little less obvious in games, simply follow the steps below.
- Go to Settings -> Accessories.
- Here go to “Controllers” and select “Vibration Intensity”.
- You can now set it to Strong (default), Medium or Weak as per your preference.
How to Set Adaptive Trigger Intensity on the DualSense Controller
On the other hand, if you find the trigger voltage used by games like Black Ops Cold War too high for you, you can adjust that too.
- Go to Settings -> Accessories.
- Here go to “Controllers” and select “Trigger Effect Intensity”.
- You can set it between Strong (default), Medium or Weak.
How to Turn off Haptic Feedback on DualSense Controllers
Many people actually prefer not to have haptic feedback on their controllers. If you’re in that camp, here’s what you need to do.
- Go to Settings -> Accessories.
- Here, go to ‘Controllers’ and select ‘Vibration Intensity’.
- Choose ‘Off’
This will turn off all haptic feedback on your controller so you can play without any additional feedback.
How to Turn Off Adaptive Triggers on DualSense Controllers
If adaptive triggers aren’t your thing and turning them off doesn’t work either, you can disable the feature altogether as well.
- Go to Settings -> Accessories.
- Here, go to “Controllers” and select “Trigger Effect Intensity”.
- Choose ‘Off’
This disables adaptive triggers on your console and you can go back to playing with triggers that feel like they did on the DualShock 4.
Customize Your DualSense Controller for a Better Gaming Experience
While I recommend keeping the haptic and adaptive triggers enabled to get the full experience offered by the console as well as the new PS5 games, if you feel like you’re being blocked by the DualSense controller’s touches, now you know how to turn them off.
While the process is pretty simple, if you run into any issues let us know in the comments and we’ll try to help you out. Also, if you’ve just bought a PS5, remember to password-protect your PS5 user account so no one can access your games or make unauthorized PS Store purchases.
