How to Revert to Default Theme on HTC One M9

The HTC One M9 is finally starting to ship to buyers and will hit carrier shelves on April 10. As they get more owners, they will have many questions. One of the best new features of the HTC One M9 is the theme engine, which allows owners to change the entire look, feel, font, icons and more in seconds. Here we explain how to revert to default theme on HTC One M9.

With HTC Sense 7 there is a brand new theme engine that is truly extremely powerful. With a few taps, you can download and apply a range of themes out of the box, choose from many fan-made themes, or even easily create your own. It’s all nice and gives the phone a unique look, but you may want to revert to the standard look that HTC owners are familiar with.

On March 1, HTC took the stage in Barcelona Spain and after months of waiting, reports, rumors and leaks, announced the new HTC One M9. It has a lot to offer, with the all-new powerful 8-core processor, stunning new 20-megapixel camera and of course the theme engine. It reaches all major US carriers in a few days, and you’ll want to keep reading to learn how to use one of the best features.

If you haven’t tried it yet, you’ll want to find the colorful circles icon and the app called “Themes” and try it, which is new for HTC One M9 and HTC Sense UI 7.0. This is one of the many areas where you can change the wallpaper, mess with ringtones, change the font and even change the icons. Then of course there are the themes that change everything.

By default, there are about 11 when you first run it, but when you go to the theme tab, you’ll find over 50 different options to try. Many of them are quite nice, but many also change the overall experience too much. That said, you’ll probably want to revert to the default (out of the box) look and theme on your device. If you’re in themes, you won’t find it. If so, here’s how to revert to the default view on your device.

Instructions

If you’ve added some crazy (and neat) themes to your HTC One M9 but want to go back to the stock look on your device, it’s actually pretty easy. Start by going to the Themes app, then tap the three lines “” button in the top left. The scrolling out navigation bar will contain all your different categories and select .

After doing this you will now be back to the standard themes page. This area shows only themes you have downloaded or applied, as well as themes titled “” at the top left, and all you have to do is tap it and press the icon. shown below. It sounds super simple, but it’s not listed if you’re in the main themes category, so we’ve had a few complaints on T-Mobile from people who bought the M9 early and couldn’t understand it.

Just go to “My Themes” and it’s right there at the top. Apply and you’re done. You are now back to the standard view that your device came in out of the box. Surprisingly this doesn’t show up in the general themes column and only shows up in My Themes causing confusion for some owners.

This is a powerful new tool introduced by HTC that allows owners to easily change the look and feel of the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and Sense UI from any angle. There are tons of options, you can make your own or browse the ever-expanding list right from your device.
