How to Manage WhatsApp Storage on iPhone and Android 1

How to Manage WhatsApp Storage on iPhone and Android

WhatsApp is the preferred way to stay in touch with your friends and family. Of course, there are several alternatives for messaging, and WhatsApp keeps adding new features to keep its users engaged. Recently, WhatsApp has added some useful add-ons such as group video calls, sticker support, and more. All these features and redirects often bloat your phone’s store. Fortunately, WhatsApp now offers a built-in storage manager tool to intelligently manage storage.

The current WhatsApp Storage Usage tool sorts all available chats by the amount of space they occupy, lists the number of messages, photos, GIFs and videos in each chat, and allows the user to delete each category with a few taps. This is useful, but does not provide users with a way to browse content they have removed.

This is important, for example, if you need to clear a family group chat and avoid deleting important photos.

There are other storage cleaning tools. But so far, WhatsApp’s app is better than rivals like Google’s Files Go and other third-party workarounds. Follow the post to learn how to manage WhatsApp Storage on iPhone and Android like a pro.

Where is WhatsApp Storage Tool

Fortunately, WhatsApp has not made a separate app to manage storage on the device. The company has integrated the tool into the app. To access, follow the steps below.

on iPhone

Stage 1: Open WhatsApp on iPhone.

Step 2: Tap on Settings on the bottom tab.

Stage 3: Select Storage & Data from the menu below.

WhatsApp Storage Functions

Immediately after betting, you will see the total amount consumed by WhatsApp on your device. You can also browse the remaining storage space on the device.

The new tool offers thumbnails of the content to be deleted and groups this data into categories, including Multiple times Forwarded and Greater than 5MB. This should make it easier for users to identify content they no longer need or want and can be deleted.

WhatsApp divided the content into two groups.

Greater than 5 MB: As the name suggests, you will see all media files larger than 5 MB in one place. You can select all files and delete them on the go.

Greater than 5 MB

I like to pay some attention to the details here. For example, you can tap the filter menu in the lower left corner and sort the media files by Newest, Oldest, and Largest. It makes a big difference when sorting hundreds of media files.

Posted Many Times: This section contains all photos, videos and documents that have been forwarded multiple times in individual chats and groups.

Open the section and tap the Select button at the top. Tap Select All at the bottom and click Delete from the screen below. You can also select a media file and mark it as a favourite.

Delete Irrelevant Media Via Chat

The WhatsApp Storage tool also lets you view the storage taken up by individual chats. You can see the contact name with profile picture and storage. This is really important as it allows you to view WhatsApp media via chat and avoid accidentally important media files.

You can also tap Search and quickly jump into the chat to delete files.

Why Should You Use WhatsApp Storage Tool?

Over time, WhatsApp takes up a significant amount of storage space on the device. You can always revert to the usual methods to delete media files from the Gallery app. But in this process, you can remove some hidden and important files from the device. After that, you cannot access these pictures, videos and documents from WhatsApp chat.

WhatsApp’s storage manager tool solves the exact problem for users. Another advantage is that the process ultimately reduces the size of WhatsApp on iPhone and Android.

Whatsapp backup

Eventually, these WhatsApp backups will take less storage in iCloud and Google Drive. Fortunately, Google does not count WhatsApp backup data from Google Drive storage. This is a boon for iPhone users.

By default, iCloud only offers 5GB of free storage. You need to host your photos, videos and other app data. So the small GB of storage on a free iCloud plan fills up quickly. Therefore, WhatsApp’s storage tool can save several gigs in iCloud backup file.

Manage Storage Like a Professional

WhatsApp’s storage management tool is a boon for power users like me. It allows me to track the space used by WhatsApp on the device and manage it according to my needs. Go ahead, follow the steps and you’ll be surprised how much space WhatsApp takes up on your iPhone or Android.
