How to Install Xposed Framework on Android Nougat

Xposed Framework is probably one of the best things to happen to Android. The level of customizability it brings with its framework immediately knocks stock Android out of the park, not to mention some custom ROMs. The framework also provides support for tons of modules that can be used to customize the device to your liking. Unfortunately, the Xposed Framework hasn’t been ported to this one since Android Nougat came out. While the original developer rovo89 he said he’s really working on it, it’s been almost a year without the Android Nougat Xposed Framework.

But don’t worry, everything is about to change now. The team behind PurifyOS has finally managed to port the Xposed Framework to Android Nougat with the help of the following. hardly modified version of the original Xposed. Update: The Xposed Framework has been officially ported to Android Nougat devices, and we’ve made changes to the article reflecting the same.

Prerequisites for Installing Xposed in Nougat:

  1. Android 7.x (SDK 25)
  2. TWRP or any other custom recovery

note: I installed the Xposed Framework on my Moto G3 running ViperOS Android 7.1.2 and my Moto X Play running AOSP Extended Android 7.1.2. The method works flawlessly in both cases and should support all devices running Android 7.x based on AOSP/Lineage.

Steps to Install Xposed Framework in Nougat

  • First, enable Unknown Sources on your device to allow third-party apps to be installed. To do this, open Android Settings and per “Security” choice. Once there, enable the toggle next to it “Unknown sources”.

  • At that time, Download Xposed Framework APK from here and install it on your device. This app will then be used to install and manage various modules for Xposed.

  • Later on, Download ZIP Here is the Xposed Installer for your device depending on your processor i.e. arm, arm64 or x86.
  • Once done, reboot your device into TWRP or flash the custom recovery of your choice and flash the Xposed Installer ZIP file you just downloaded.

  • Once done, make sure “Wipe Cache/Dalvik”. After that, continue restart your device.
  • After rebooting, navigate to: Xposed Installer app. You will see that Xposed Framework is now installed.

note: You may receive a notification saying “Xposed is not (yet) compatible with Android SDK version 25 or your processor architecture”. No need to worry as Xposed is not officially supported, but it still works.

  • In the Xposed Installer app, tap on it. hamburger button top left to reveal the sidebar. Go to: “download” Click on the tab to see a list of all available modules you can download and install. Tap the module of your choice and choose to download.

note: In case the download function does not work, simply click “Save” instead. It will download the APK file of that module, which you can install using any file manager.

Download Xposed Module

  • After installing your chosen module, navigate to: “Modules” from the sidebar. Now, tap the checkbox To activate it you will need to restart your device for the Module next to the module to activate.

  • When your device reboots, the module changes will take place. For example, I set up XSSID Indicator, which basically shows the SSID of the WiFi in the status bar. As you can see below, it works fine.

The Android community has waited a very long time to get Xposed Framework support for Android Nougat devices.
