How to Enable Persistent Notifications in iOS 11

One of the best features of iOS in general is Notification Previews. With the latest version of iOS 11 recently released by Apple, the feature gets even better thanks to Persistent Notifications. If you have no idea what this is, let me explain briefly. Usually, when you receive a notification on your iOS device, the preview takes a few seconds, just long enough to read the notification message displayed on the screen. What if you’re busy working on something else or can’t finish reading the entire message? That’s where Persistent Notifications comes into play. Unlike the usual “Temporary Notifications”, such notifications stay on the screen permanently until you swipe, so you don’t even have to worry about missing previews. Interested in enabling this already? Well, we’ll help you with that, but before we check out how to enable persistent notifications in iOS 11, let’s learn more about this new feature.

note: I’ve tried this on the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6s, but it should work on the new iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X as well as older iPhones.

Enable Persistent Notifications in iOS 11

Persistent Notifications are one of the two types of notifications that Apple’s iOS currently offers to its users. While not enabled by default for the device, users can easily enable it from the settings app as long as their device is running iOS 11. There are no shortcuts to quickly enable or disable it in the Control Center. Also, you cannot fully enable this feature for all apps on your iPhone. Instead, you’ll have to do it for each app separately, which can be annoying. Regardless, just follow these steps to enable persistent notifications in iOS 11:

  • hungry “Settings” Tap the app on your iOS device and tap on it. “Notifications”. Scroll down in this menu and tap specific app you want to enable persistent notifications

  • You will be taken to the notification settings menu of the application, where you can customize all the notifications and previews you receive from the relevant application. Here, at the bottom, you will be able to see two large phone icons, one with “Temporary” and the other with “Permanent”. tap on it “Insistent” option to enable this new type of notification preview.

Persistent Previews with Persistent Notifications in iOS 11

Once enabled, each notification preview that appears on the screen for a particular app will persist until you swipe it. Personally, this feature is available for WhatsApp, Facebook, Google Allo, etc. I think it’s more practical for messaging apps because if temporary previews are enabled, we often won’t be able to finish reading the entire message. So, have you enabled persistent notifications on your iOS device? If so, how much did you enjoy using this feature? Let us know by shooting your valuable feedback in the comments section below.
