How to Disable Bloatware on Galaxy S8

In this guide, we will explain how to get rid of bloatware on your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+. What is bloatware? They are dozens of apps that come pre-installed by carriers and often take up space on our smartphones. Samsung is famous for this, but they are not the only ones.

Most phones sold by carriers in the United States are packed with apps that most owners will never use. Things like Lookout Security, Sprint’s NASCAR stuff, and even T-Mobile and Verizon apps. Who needs AT&T WiFi or an app dedicated to the Dictionary?

This is called “bloatware” or crapware in the industry and cannot be removed. Not without rooting your phone (Jailbreak for Android) and a few tricks. However, it can be completely hidden and disabled. Basically out of sight, out of mind. Here’s how to disable all bloatware on your new Galaxy.

When you get the new Galaxy S8, you may notice more than 15 apps that you haven’t installed. And these are in addition to Samsung’s own apps. Search for apps like Hancom Office Editor, DirecTV, DT Ignite, or a few apps from Amazon. All of these have been pre-installed there by carriers, and sometimes they add more with major software updates.

Fortunately for us, getting rid of bloatware is pretty easy. It is easy to disable them so that they no longer appear on the phone. It actually takes a little more work to remove the bloatware to make it go away completely. Luckily the Galaxy S8 now comes with 64GB of storage, so wasting a few apps space isn’t that big of a deal.

Still, if you want to get rid of all those pre-installed apps and bloatware, here’s how.

Instructions

All owners have to do is go into the settings and find the app listings. Then we will have to disable or remove everything one by one. It’s not ideal, but it only takes a few minutes and you’ll never have to do it again.

Find the individual app and press disable. Make sure you only disable stuff from carriers or that you know won’t cause problems. Some may sound like bloatware, but they are necessary for the phone to work. I disabled everything from Amazon, AT&T, AT&T Data Usage Manager, Lookout Mobile Security, PDF Write and a few others. Twelve in total.

Other details

These apps will run longer and the screen real estate waste won’t be in the app tray either. However, they still take up quite a bit of internal storage. Because we didn’t actually delete any of them. Owners can follow the same steps on any app they need at a later date.

We’re all done. Now all the apps that came pre-installed on your Galaxy S8 are completely disabled and hidden. Once developers and hackers find out how to root Galaxy S8, we will update this guide with steps to completely remove everything. While you’re here, check out these awesome Galaxy S8+ cases.
