If you need to add a second Google account or Gmail to your Android device, this guide will show you how. This is one of the first steps when setting up a new Android device. However, adding a second account later can be confusing for some. With that in mind, here are some quick and simple instructions.
Whether it’s for work, personal, or another account for kids, this is something many people have to do. The question came from a friend recently and I realized that it might not be easy for some to understand the option in the settings.
Fortunately, adding a second (or third) account is extremely easy. No matter what version of Android or who made the device, the steps are the same. If you need Gmail accounts, this can be done in the same way as our steps above. Simply add another Google account to the device.
As a reminder, it’s always a good idea to use strong passwords and a password manager. This way it’s easy to deal with multiple accounts on your device. The steps below will show you how to add a second account to your Android device, sync all its information, and even remove one if needed.
Add Account Instructions
First, go to the settings menu. Do this by swiping down the notification bar and hitting the gear-shaped settings button. Or find the app labeled Settings in your app tray. Now, you just have to go to Accounts and fill in the information detailed below.
Users may be asked for a 2-factor authentication, then have the option to add payment information and accept all terms. Hit the next step of all this or add whatever you want and we’re done.
Now owners can go back to Settings > Accounts and select the tab labeled Google to see both accounts. Here you can enable or disable what is synced like contacts and more.
Other details
To remove the account press the same “Google” option and tap the account, then press the menu points at the top right and select .
It’s also worth noting that you’ll need to open Gmail at least once for it to recognize and sync emails from the second Google account. From here you can change its settings and manage everything you need.
You can also easily switch between the two accounts in Gmail. Simply press the three-line menu button on the top left and a drop-down menu will appear. From here tap on your email address or the down arrow and select your second account to view. Users can also use the same drop-down menu for “Add Account” for Gmail if they wish.
Either way, you will add another Google account and Gmail address to your Android device. That’s it, enjoy. For more articles like this, check out our How To Guide Portal.
