Facebook’s iOS SDK is causing a number of popular iPhone apps to crash today, including Spotify, Pinterest, and Tinder. The Facebook app doesn’t even need to be installed for other apps to crash, as the developers implement the Facebook login via their own app. This is the second time the issue has occurred in recent months, but a workaround is available to get apps back up and running before Facebook fixes the issues.
Lockdown Apps, a firewall and privacy protection app on iOS, uses a VPN to block trackers and things like Facebook’s iOS SDK from installing on third-party apps. It will allow apps like Spotify, Pinterest, and Tinder to launch during a Facebook iOS SDK outage, and it’s completely free to use. Here’s how to install the app:
- download Locking Apps from the App Store
- Launch Lockdown Apps and watch the onscreen tutorial
- Hit the cancel button when it asks you to register or log in
- Tap the “firewall on” button at the top of the app
- You will need to agree to create a VPN profile on your iPhone
- Once installed, you can change the VPN/firewall from within Lockdown Apps.
- Skip the trial, apps will now run freely

This is a good workaround for Facebook iOS SDK issues and should work on every crashing app today. If you no longer need Lockdown Apps after Facebook fixes the issues, you can uninstall the app and this will also remove the VPN profile.
