Windows 10’s Microsoft Store includes a good library of apps, some of which – like iTunes, for example – work better than traditional desktop programs. But even the act of downloading these applications to your computer can be quite difficult. After clicking the Get or Install buttons in the Microsoft Store, nothing happens. This must be frustrating. Therefore, we will try to help you fix the problem when you click the Get or Install button in Microsoft Store and it will not cause any activity.
Recently I ran into issue with unresponsive Get or Install button. But luckily it was among the easier problems I was able to solve with the Microsoft Store.
Therefore, the following list of troubleshooting tips will help you start downloading your favorite apps from Microsoft Store right away. Let’s start with what works.
Fly: Before you start, restarting your computer is a great idea. This simple action can help fix various Windows anomalies. Get that out of the way first.
1. Reset Microsoft Store
What helped me to fix the issue immediately with the unresponsive Get/Install buttons was a full reset of the Microsoft Store.
Resetting the Microsoft Store returns it to its default settings, thus allowing the app to work again without misconfigurations messing things up.
Stage 1: Open the start menu, hover over the gear-shaped Settings icon, then click Settings.
Step 2: Click Applications.
Stage 3: Select Microsoft Store from the list of apps and then click Advanced Options.
Step 4: Scroll down and then click Reset.
Step 5: Click Reset in the confirmation box. Wait for the reset procedure to finish and then exit the Settings app.
Step 6: Start by searching for Microsoft Store (via the Start menu or Search) and then click Open.
Note: The reset procedure removes the Microsoft Store taskbar icon. After the call, if you want to get it back to the taskbar, use the Pin to Taskbar option.
Try installing an app when the Microsoft Store has finished launching. It should probably be mandatory. If that didn’t help, move on to the next troubleshooting tip.
2. Clear Microsoft Store Cache
Windows 10 comes with a built-in Command Prompt executable that deletes the Microsoft Store cache. If unresponsive Get/Load buttons are the result of redundant or stale cached data, running this executable will fix it.
Stage 1: Call wsreset.exe (via the Start menu or Search) and then click Open.
Step 2: Wait a few seconds while Command Prompt clears the Microsoft Store cache. You don’t have to do anything.
The Microsoft Store should start automatically after the cache is cleared. Check if the Get or Install button is working properly. If they are not responding, read on to understand what to do next.
3. Log Out/Sign In to Microsoft Store
Signing out of Microsoft Store and then signing back in can help fix the stable Get or Install button that refuses to work.
Stage 1: Open Microsoft Store and then click on your profile portrait in the upper-right corner of the app window. Click your Microsoft Account in the menu that opens.
Step 2: Click Sign Out under the Microsoft Store account you’re signed in to. After logging out, exit the Microsoft Store and restart.
Stage 3: Click the profile icon (it should appear blank) and then click Sign In.
Step 4: Select your Microsoft Account and then click Continue to sign in again. You may need to go through a certain form of authentication (such as entering a login PIN) to complete the login procedure.
Try installing an app after you’ve finished signing in again. The problem should most likely be resolved.
4. Run the Microsoft Store Troubleshooter
Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter that can automatically find and fix Microsoft Store related issues. If the tips above didn’t work, it’s time to activate the troubleshooter.
Stage 1: Open the Settings app (click Settings on the Start menu) and then click Update & Security.
Step 2: Click on the side tab labeled Troubleshooting.
Stage 3: Scroll down the list of troubleshooting options, click Windows Store Apps, then click Run Troubleshooter. Then it’s a simple matter of following the onscreen instructions to patch to the Microsoft Store.
If any issues were detected and fixed by the troubleshooter, the Get or Install button should work properly.
5. Re-Register Microsoft Store
Re-registering Microsoft Store with Windows 10 is a viable fix that can fix serious problems with the app. The procedure can be performed quickly by running a specific command via the Windows PowerShell console.
Stage 1: Search for Windows PowerShell (via the Start menu or Search) and then click Open.
Step 2: Copy and paste the following command into Windows PowerShell:
Get-AppXPackage *Microsoft.WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
Stage 3: Press Enter to execute the command.
Next, open the Microsoft Store and then try to install an app to see if the issue is resolved.
Start Download
Are the Get or Install buttons in the Microsoft Store responsive once again? Most likely they should. If the problem persists, you may want to update Windows 10. Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update to check for and install the latest updates. If a known technical issue is preventing Microsoft Store from working properly, updating will fix things.
