Google Maps now offers a new interface. If some improvements are interesting, others are no less confusing, and for good reason right now you’ll have to click twice instead of once to access the navigation stages during a trip, making the app less convenient to use. However, not everything is meant to be thrown away. Here’s how to enable this new interface.
For now, Google has not yet communicated about the new interface of the GPS app. This was discovered by accident by an editor of Android Police and found himselfclear app data. You don’t need to know how to use Google Maps like a pro! He got a little surprise when he wanted to restart and use it again, the interface had changed.
Now when navigating, when you click on the remaining time, you do not have direct access to the different stages of the journey, a new menu with a search option related to the journey, alternative routes, a shortcut to the steps on your route and navigation settings.
In summary, accessing the different stages of the route no longer requires just one click, but two clicks, which can be inconvenient, especially by car. Additionally, the traffic and satellite imagery options are only available in the left menu, so they must be expanded before they can be accessed.
For once, keep in mind that you won’t need to download an APK file to experience the changes. The update is done by Google’s servers. So all you have to do is make sure you have the latest version of Google Maps available in the Play Store, then simply clear the app data in your phone settings to activate the new interface.
It is possible that the new interface has not yet been distributed to everyone. On our side, we got it for the first time on a Sony Xperia Z5 running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and version 9.41.1 of the app.
