Warhammer 40,000: Darktide error codes and how to fix them

Darktide error codes pop up when players are disconnected from servers or unable to join a new game. Many Warhammer 40,000: Darktide players continue to experience these issues even after launch. Fortunately, most of the common error codes have been accepted by Fatshark developers working on a solution.

However, some players reddit (opens in new tab) and Fatshark Forum (opens in new tab) reportedly managed to fix some bugs themselves. If you want to play Darktide smoothly, it’s worth a try. Note that these solutions do not always work.

How to fix Darktide error codes: general solutions

Each Darktide error code refers to a different problem, but there are usually a few potential fixes worth trying. First of all, you can restart the game or restart your PC (you never know). You should also check your antivirus or firewall as they can block your access to the game’s server. If that’s not the problem, check your internet connection and restart your router. Finally, you can try updating your graphics card drivers, verifying game files, or reinstalling the game.

Darktide error code 2001

Darktide error 2001 is one of the most common errors, also known as ‘non-existent channel error’. It causes a server disconnection that appears to be related to system requirements or connection issues. If your PC meets the minimum requirements to run Darktide, try the general solutions mentioned above. Some gamers reported that disabling RTX (in game settings) fixed the issue, so this is worth a try as well.

Darktide error code 2003

Darktide error code 2003, ‘connection loss’ error can cause connection problems at any point during gameplay. While some players seem to be able to rejoin their game, others are experiencing a hard crash. There is no official fix, but you can try the general solutions.

A group of gamers on the forums suggested that using a VPN might help, but that’s certainly not always the case. We do not recommend purchasing a VPN subscription just for Darktide. If you’re playing on Steam, this might not be a wise idea given the platform’s anti-VPN rules.

Darktide error code 2007

As above, Darktide error 2007 or ‘internal error’ causes server disconnection. While some players have reported that Darktide’s launch servers have fixed this bug for them, others are still experiencing crashes. You can try the same possible solutions mentioned above (restart, reinstall, etc).

Darktide error code 3001

Error 3001 disconnects players from the server and prevents them from joining, giving a ‘failed to join lobby’ message. The issue has been acknowledged by Fatshark, but there are no reports from players who have managed to fix this issue.

Darktide error code 4001

Darktide error code 4001 disconnects players from the server or prevents them from joining a party. It seems to affect Game Pass players in particular, and most commonly after completing the tutorial. This error can be caused by an overloaded server, as some players have reported that waiting a bit fixed the issue for them. If that doesn’t help, check your firewall access (perhaps by disabling it completely), verify your files or run the game as Administrator.

Darktide error code 4008 and 9999

Darktide ‘failed handshake timeout’ error code 4008 is another very common error. Several players mentioned disabling the firewall or using a VPN (but heed our warning; see bug 2003!) as a workable solution. Since it has been suggested that error code 9999 is basically the same as 4008, you might want to try the same things for this one as well.

Darktide backend error

New Darktide backend bugs continue to be reported on the Fatshark forum. If none of the general solutions work, the developers suggested that using only alphabetic characters and hyphens in character names might help. Stick to letters, avoid spaces.
