On June 20th, the Electronic Artsknown by the acronym EA, has announced a radical change in its internal structure, shocking the industry, players and even many employees. Now, the company will have two main fronts in its business: EA Entertainment and EA Sports.

EA Sports will be responsible for the sports games, one of the main sources of income for the company, famous for the great football title “FIFA”. In addition to the series, racing games such as “F1” and “Need for Speed” will also be under the command of Sports, directed by Cam Weber.

Meanwhile, EA Entertainment is responsible for the brand’s other games in different and also grand genres, such as “Battlefield”, “the Sims“, “Mass Effect” and the long-awaited “Immortals of Aveum”.

The arm will be led by Laura Miele, Samantha Ryan, Vince Zampella and Jeff Karp, who will work in more specific areas.

Reason for changes

Andrew Wilson, current CEO of AE, argued during the announcement that the restructuring has a simple and practical purpose: to facilitate the company’s internal decision-making processes. Regarding the company’s objective, he states:

Empower studio leaders with greater creative authority and financial responsibility so they can make faster, more informed decisions about development and market strategies.

Furthermore, regarding the division of guardianship of each gaming group, Wilson explained that the decision will help accelerate the company’s growth, in addition to delivering quality and value to players, teams and the entire community.

This drastic change, as occurred with the Disneycomes after EA laid off 6% of its employees in March of this year. In June, the company also announced the mass layoff of two-thirds of its employees at Firemonkeys, a subsidiary of EA Games.
