It’s been almost a month since Bloomberg first reported the disastrous development of the Star Wars: Knights of the Republic remake. At the end of July, Aspyr officials announced to their teams that the project was put on hold after quality issues. The decision came from video game giant Embracer, which coincidentally bought the rights to Lord of the Rings last week.
Finally, soon after, the group reported in a financial report, “AAA projects moved to another group studio”, without name. “It was done to make sure the quality bar is where we need to be for the championship.”, however, the specified Embracer. Not surprisingly, this AAA game is therefore KOTOR. As of now, Saber Interactive studio is responsible for completing the development.
Star Wars KOTOR hasn’t come out of the jungle yet
As Bloomberg points out, changing studios during development is not trivial. New developers will have to be familiar with the work that has already been done, the engine and programming language used, let alone any changes that need to be made. In other words, as we informed you last month, the possibility of delaying the release date is much higher. It’s smarter now to aim for a launch in 2025.
Currently Embracer Group is playing its trust card and “Don’t expect delays” in development of the remake. However, given the state the title is currently in, this seems very optimistic. As a reminder, Star Wars KOTOR was announced during a PlayStation Showcase last year. The trailer took care not to give an exact release date.
