Rise of the Ronin reveals extremely tense gameplay, it’ll bleed

A huge gathering of PlayStation gamers took place last night: the State of Play conference, where Sony announced the next big games for the PS5 or teased news of upcoming releases. The big trailer of the night was of course Death Stranding 2, which had the luxury of releasing a nearly 10-minute trailer that revealed the continuation of Norman Reedus and Léa Seydoux’s adventures. Among Juggernaut and other games, Rise of the Ronin managed to find its place with a very interesting trailer.

If you’re a fan of the Souls-like and Team Ninja games (Dead or Alive, Nioh, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty), you’ve definitely heard of the Japanese studio’s next game. An origin emphasized in Rise of the Ronin is that it is set at the end of the Edo period, at the end of the 19th century, while the presence of the West was increasingly felt in the lands of the Sun Levant. You will play as a nameless samurai who is determined to defend his country at all costs.

You won’t have to blink in Rise of Ronin

The new gameplay trailer begins by revealing Rise of the Ronin’s urban environments, torn between Japanese tradition and Western influence, and above all, the character’s aerial movements. The latter will actually rely heavily on the use of the grappling hook, allowing you to gain height in a fraction of a second. It’s hard not to think of Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice.

However, unlike From Software’s game, here it will be possible to continue your journey with a hang glider that can fly over all areas. In short, in Rise of the Ronin, travel will be done very quickly, just like the fights. Indeed, the latter looks particularly tense, with very short animations and reaction windows, a true signature of Team Ninja.

But Rise of the Ronin’s salt will definitely be found in the use of more modern weapons. In the trailer, we see a pistol, a rifle, and even a flamethrower; These will allow you to gain an instant advantage against these enemies. The game will be released exclusively for PS5 on March 22, 2024.
